Outreach and Engagement Specialist - Full Time

Help expand access to behavioral health care through community outreach and engagement!

We are seeking an organized, relationship-driven Outreach and Engagement Specialist to coordinate community outreach activities across Central North Carolina. This role plans and supports outreach events, coordinates staff participation, manages outreach schedules and community resources, and represents SouthLight at health fairs, recovery events, and community activities. Working closely with our Social Determinants of Health, clinical, and marketing teams, you'll help increase awareness of SouthLight's mental health, substance use, recovery, and supportive services while ensuring our outreach efforts are organized, effective, and mission-driven.

Pay

~$58,000 per year, based on experience.

Full-time employees are eligible for medical benefits the first of the month 30 days after hire date. Options for a standard plan and an HSA plan with a $100 initial contribution and up to a $25 per paycheck match. 10 paid holidays and PTO hours which accrue at a rate of 10 hours per month. After 6 months employees are eligible to enroll in our 401(k) plan which has a 4% match. Company paid life insurance, short and long term disability, in house and paid training opportunities, and additional pay for working holidays.

Job Responsibilities of an Outreach and Engagement Specialist

Plan, coordinate, and represent SouthLight at community outreach events, health fairs, recovery events, and partner activities
Build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, shelters, recovery organizations, social service agencies, and other partners that are critical to SouthLight’s referral network and community impact.
Strengthen referral pathways and increase community awareness of SouthLight’s mental health, substance use, recovery, and supportive services.
Support outreach events and initiatives across SouthLight’s service areas, including Raleigh, Durham, and Fayetteville, and help coordinate outreach activities in emerging markets.
Maintain an outreach calendar and coordinate participation with internal teams; recruit, coordinate, and schedule staff participation in outreach activities and community events.
Coordinate speaking engagement requests by connecting community partners
Track outreach activities, presentations, partnerships, and community engagement efforts; contribute data and insights to support reporting, planning, grant requirements, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications of an Outreach and Engagement Specialist

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, psychology, health education, human services, communications, or a related field; OR equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and relevant work experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Experience working with diverse populations and community partners
Ability to work independently and manage multiple outreach activities and priorities
Strong organizational and relationship-building skills
Comfortable representing the organization publicly in community settings
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
