Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Return-to-Work Case Manager (RN) for a 6-month contract supporting occupational health and return-to-work case management in Clayton, NC. This is an on-site occupational health role supporting employees with work-related injuries, medical leave, accommodations, and return-to-work needs.

Work Setting: On-site Occupational Health / Industrial Manufacturing
Job Type: 6-Month Contract
Pay Rate: $40/hour

Job Summary

Manage workers' compensation and return-to-work cases from initial assessment through resolution.
Coordinate medical care for employees with work-related injuries and illnesses.
Work with physicians, insurance adjusters, employees, HR, and management to coordinate appropriate care.
Evaluate employees' medical restrictions and fitness for return to work.
Assist management with developing appropriate light-duty assignments.
Develop and monitor individualized case management plans.
Evaluate treatment plans and coordinate cost-effective medical care.
Support timely medical treatment and successful return-to-work outcomes.
Coordinate medical accommodations and support the ADA interactive process.
Maintain confidential medical, disability, and demographic information.
Maintain accurate medical records, workers' compensation documentation, surveillance records, and return-to-work documentation.
Provide telephone triage and determine appropriate levels of care for workplace injuries.
Provide nursing care, first aid, medical assessment, referrals, and follow-up when needed.
Respond to workplace emergencies and coordinate appropriate medical transportation.
Communicate with medical providers regarding treatment plans, restrictions, and work capabilities.
Support occupational health services at additional locations as needed.
Participate in rotating on-call coverage as required.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary nursing resource for workers' compensation case management.
Lead return-to-work case coordination and medical rehabilitation activities.
Coordinate with insurance carriers and claims adjusters.
Review medical information and determine appropriate work restrictions.
Partner with HR and management on employee accommodations.
Support the ADA interactive process.
Maintain compliance with applicable occupational health and workplace requirements.
Build strong working relationships with Staff RNs and other occupational health professionals.
Stay current with occupational health practices through professional education, meetings, webinars, and training.

Requirements

ADN or BSN from an accredited nursing program.
Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN license.
BSN: Minimum 1 year of related nursing experience.
ADN: Minimum 3 years of related nursing experience.
Experience in one or more of the following preferred:
Workers' compensation case management
Occupational health nursing
Case management
Medical assessment
Emergency medical care
Clinical nursing
Public health nursing
Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and interactive accommodation process.
Knowledge of workers' compensation case management.
Knowledge of OSHA and occupational health practices.
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong documentation and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate with physicians, HR, management, employees, and insurance representatives.

Preferred Qualifications

COHN or COHN-S certification through the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN).
Case management certification or related specialty certification.
Experience managing return-to-work or occupational injury cases.
Experience working in an industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, or occupational health environment.
