Nonprofit Accountant / Bookkeeper
Northern Virginia
Part Time | Onsite

We are seeking an experienced Accountant / Bookkeeper to provide accounting support for a nonprofit organization in Northern Virginia.

The primary responsibility of this position is compiling, organizing, and maintaining documentation for expenses submitted to state and federal agencies for reimbursement. This includes reviewing receipts, invoices, payroll records, and other supporting documentation to ensure expenses are properly documented and ready for reimbursement.

This position requires someone who is highly organized, detail oriented, dependable, and comfortable working with detailed financial documentation.

This is an onsite position. The employee or contractor must be available to work onsite four out of five business days each week.

Responsibilities

Grant and Reimbursement Support

Compile and organize receipts, invoices, payroll records, and other supporting documentation for reimbursable expenses.
Review expenses for completeness, accuracy, appropriate coding, and required supporting documentation.
Prepare expense documentation and supporting schedules for reimbursement requests.
Track reimbursable expenses and identify missing documentation or discrepancies.
Maintain organized records for state and federal reimbursement requirements, monitoring, and audits.
Assist with tracking program budgets and expenses.

Accounting

Record and maintain accounting transactions in QuickBooks Online.
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
Review transactions for proper classification and supporting documentation.
Maintain accurate general ledger records.
Assist with month end close and financial reporting.

Payroll

Process payroll accurately and on schedule.
Review payroll information and supporting records.
Record payroll transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Accounts Payable

Enter and process vendor bills.
Make payments through the organization's online banking system.
Maintain documentation supporting payments.
Monitor outstanding bills and follow up as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

Assist with audit preparation and provide requested financial documentation.
Maintain organized electronic and physical financial records.
Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
Communicate with management regarding missing documentation, discrepancies, and accounting issues.

Qualifications

Accounting or bookkeeping experience required.
Nonprofit accounting experience preferred.
Experience with grant accounting, government funded programs, or reimbursement processes preferred.
Experience processing payroll.
Experience with accounts payable and online bill payment.
QuickBooks Online experience required.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Ability to identify discrepancies and missing information rather than making assumptions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Work Schedule

Part time
Onsite in Northern Virginia
Must be available to work onsite four out of five business days each week.
