Operations, Events & Communications Manager

Founded in 1934, the Marin County Bar Association (MCBA) is a nonprofit professional organization serving attorneys, judges, legal professionals, and the public throughout Marin County. Through continuing legal education, networking, community service, and member engagement, MCBA strengthens the legal profession, promotes access to justice, and fosters a vibrant legal community.

Position Summary

The Operations, Events & Communications Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations and member services of the Marin County Bar Association. This position oversees Bar committees, sections, events, communications, membership administration, and office operations, serving as the primary operational partner to the Executive Director.

Working closely with the Executive Director, this role ensures that programs, communications, and member services are delivered with professionalism, consistency, and exceptional attention to detail.

This position is ideal for an energetic, highly organized professional who enjoys bringing order to complexity, managing multiple priorities, and creating an outstanding experience for members and volunteers. The successful candidate is proactive, resourceful, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while keeping multiple priorities and projects on track.

Schedule

32 hours per week (Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.)
Office closed Fridays
Reports to the Executive Director
Works closely with Board leadership, Committee Chairs, and Section leaders
$75,000 full-time equivalent (FTE); $60,000 annual salary for this 80% position

Core Responsibilities

1. Committees & Sections Management

Serve as the primary staff liaison to all MCBA Committees and Sections.
Coordinate meeting schedules, agendas, materials, and follow-up.
Support volunteer leaders and ensure timely execution of committee activities.
Maintain consistency and follow-through across committees and sections.

2. Events & Programs

Plan and execute all Bar events, including CLE programming, networking events, and member activities.
Coordinate all event logistics from planning through post-event follow-up.
Manage venue coordination, registration, materials, vendors, and day-of execution.
Support sponsorship fulfillment in coordination with the Executive Director.
Ensure every event reflects a polished, professional member experience.

3. Communications

Manage the Association's communications, including:

Member emails and announcements
Event promotions and invitations (using Canva or similar platforms)
Website updates
Coordination of the quarterly online Marin Lawyer magazine
Marketing materials, flyers, brochures, and promotional content

Additional responsibilities include:

Maintain an organized communications calendar.
Ensure communications are timely, accurate, visually professional, and consistent with the Association's brand.

4. Membership Systems & Data Integrity

Maintain the membership database and ensure the accuracy of member records.
Process new member applications, renewals, and onboarding.
Generate reports and membership lists to support outreach and engagement.
Coordinate closely with the Executive Director on membership retention initiatives.

The Executive Director retains responsibility for membership growth, strategic planning, and external engagement. This position is responsible for operational execution and data integrity.

5. General Operations Support

Support the Executive Director in the day-to-day operations of the Association.
Maintain organized office systems, files, and administrative processes.
Coordinate vendors, office technology, supplies, and facility needs.
Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and implement practical solutions.
Assist with additional projects that support the Association's mission and strategic priorities.

Members receive timely, professional, and engaging communications.
Events are well organized and consistently deliver an excellent member experience.
Committee and Section leaders feel informed, supported, and successful.
Membership records and organizational systems remain accurate and up to date.
The office operates efficiently through well-organized processes and proactive problem solving.
The Executive Director can focus on leadership, strategy, fundraising, and external relationships because operational execution is consistently handled with excellence.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems, and ensuring that details never fall through the cracks.

Five or more years of experience in operations, event management, association management, or nonprofit administration.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to anticipate needs, solve problems independently, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, database systems, email platforms, and basic website management.
Working proficiency with Canva (or similar design software) to independently create newsletters, flyers, brochures, event invitations, and other marketing materials.
Experience working with volunteer-led organizations is strongly preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $60,000 annually (32 hours per week; equivalent to a full-time salary of $75,000)
