Position Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant prepares and reviews complex tax returns, identifies and supports client advisory initiatives, performs tax research, and manages assigned tax engagements with limited supervision.

This role works directly with clients, managers, and firm leadership to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality tax compliance and advisory services while contributing to the continued success of the firm and its clients.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Compliance

Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, estates, and multi-state entities.
Analyze client financial information and supporting documentation to ensure accurate tax reporting.
Review financial statements, bookkeeping records, and supporting schedules related to tax engagements.
Ensure timely completion of tax returns and related deliverables while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
Assist with responses to client tax notices, inquiries, and compliance-related matters.

Tax Research & Planning

Research federal and state tax issues and document technical conclusions.
Assist managers and firm leadership with tax planning projects and client advisory services.
Identify potential tax-saving opportunities and communicate practical recommendations.
Stay current on tax law changes and emerging compliance requirements.
Support tax planning initiatives for individuals and closely held businesses.

Client Service & Engagement Management

Manage assigned tax engagements, including gathering client information, monitoring project status, and meeting filing deadlines.
Communicate directly with clients to answer questions, request information, and provide project updates.
Develop strong client relationships through responsiveness, professionalism, and proactive service.
Collaborate with managers, partners, and team members to resolve complex tax matters.
Contribute to process improvements and initiatives that enhance client service and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 3+ years of recent public accounting tax experience.
Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential preferred but not required
Strong knowledge of federal and California tax laws and compliance requirements.
Experience preparing and reviewing individual and business income tax returns.
Ability to independently manage tax engagements with limited supervision.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong client service orientation.
Experience with tax preparation software
