Position Summary
Strut Technologies is seeking skilled Unistrut Installers / Layout Mechanics to install engineered overhead support systems in hospitals, healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, and other technically demanding environments.
We are specifically looking for individuals who are strong at construction layout, accurate measurement, blueprint reading, and field installation. Previous Unistrut experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong commercial HVAC/sheet-metal, electrical, pipefitting, sprinkler fitting, millwright, metal framing, miscellaneous metals, or similar construction backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The ideal candidate can walk into a room with a set of construction drawings, establish reference points and elevations, accurately lay out the work, and complete or support the installation with minimal supervision.
This is not a general construction laborer position. Successful candidates must demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to measure and lay out construction work accurately.
Key Responsibilities
· Read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, details, dimensions, and installation plans.
· Accurately lay out overhead support systems from drawings and established field control points.
· Establish centerlines, offsets, elevations, attachment locations, and equipment support locations.
· Use tape measures, laser levels, laser distance meters, chalk lines, levels, squares, and other layout tools.
· Verify field dimensions before fabrication, drilling, or installation.
· Measure, cut, assemble, and install Unistrut/strut channel systems.
· Install threaded rod, fittings, brackets, trapezes, supports, anchors, and related hardware.
· Drill and install anchors into concrete and structural substrates in accordance with project requirements.
· Install overhead supports from ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts.
· Verify dimensions and elevations after installation to ensure work complies with drawings and tolerances.
· Identify discrepancies between drawings and actual field conditions before proceeding with installation.
· Coordinate installation around ductwork, piping, conduit, cable tray, sprinkler systems, structural elements, and other building systems.
· Communicate potential conflicts or dimensional discrepancies to the Foreman, Superintendent, or Project Manager.
· Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and follow project-specific safety requirements.
· Assist with material staging, prefabrication, kitting, and installation planning.
· Travel to project locations as required.
Relevant Trade Backgrounds
Strong construction layout experience can substitute for direct Unistrut experience. Candidates with hands-on commercial construction experience in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
· Unistrut / strut support systems
· Commercial HVAC or sheet-metal installation
· Commercial electrical installation
· Pipefitting or mechanical piping
· Fire sprinkler installation
· Millwright work
· Metal stud framing and layout
· Miscellaneous metals installation
· Equipment support or overhead MEP support systems
· Medical equipment support systems
Required Skills
· Read a tape measure accurately, including fractional-inch dimensions.
· Perform construction measurements and basic field calculations.
· Read and understand construction drawings and transfer dimensions to actual field conditions.
· Establish accurate horizontal and vertical layout, elevations, centerlines, and offsets.
· Use laser levels and common construction layout equipment.
· Measure and mark materials accurately before cutting.
· Safely operate drills, impact drivers, saws, grinders, rotary hammers, and common construction tools.
· Work overhead for extended periods and work from ladders and aerial lifts.
· Lift and position construction materials and components.
· Work independently after receiving drawings and installation instructions.
· Recognize when field conditions do not match drawings and stop work before creating an installation error.
Preferred Qualifications
· 2+ years of commercial construction experience.
· Previous experience performing construction layout.
· Experience with Unistrut, Superstrut, Hilti, threaded rod, trapeze supports, or similar support systems.
· Experience installing overhead mechanical or electrical supports.
· Experience using rotary hammers and concrete anchoring systems.
· Experience working from aerial lifts.
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
· Aerial lift certification.
· Experience working in hospitals, healthcare facilities, laboratories, data centers, or other technically demanding construction environments.
· Experience working from coordinated shop drawings or BIM-generated installation drawings.
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate is someone who can be given a drawing and an unfinished room and determine:
· Where the support system belongs
· Where the centerlines are located
· The correct elevation and required offsets
· Attachment locations and field dimensions
· Potential conflicts with other trades
· What needs to be verified before drilling or installation begins
Accuracy over speed. Measuring twice, verifying the layout, and installing correctly the first time is more important than completing an installation quickly and having to return for corrections.
Work Environment
Projects may include hospitals, operating rooms, imaging suites, laboratories, commercial buildings, and active construction sites. Installers may work above ceilings and at elevated heights using ladders, scaffolds, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
Work may include installation of support systems for:
· Surgical booms and surgical lights
· Patient lifts
· Equipment rails and tracks
· Medical and ceiling-mounted equipment
· Partitions
· Imaging equipment
· Mechanical and electrical equipment
· Other engineered overhead support systems
Travel Requirements
· Travel for multiple days or weeks when required.
· Work occasional nights or weekends based on project schedules.
· Work varying shifts when required by hospital or construction-site conditions.
· Maintain reliable attendance and report to projects on time.
Company travel arrangements and applicable travel expenses are provided in accordance with company policy.
Hiring Process — Practical Skills Test
Qualified applicants may be required to complete a hands-on skills assessment before receiving an employment offer. The assessment may include:
· Reading a construction drawing and tape measure.
· Calculating dimensions and offsets.
· Establishing a centerline and elevation using a laser.
· Laying out attachment points.
· Measuring and marking strut for cutting.
· Identifying potential installation conflicts.
· Demonstrating proper use of common installation tools.
Applicants are not expected to know every Strut Technologies installation system on Day One. We can teach our systems and installation standards. Candidates must bring strong construction fundamentals, measurement skills, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to precision.

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
