Job purpose
The lab technician is responsible for performing lab tests, verifying samples, documentation, and taking necessary corrective actions whenever a product and/or process is out of spec. Candidate will also ensure that all safety precautions are followed in the lab, with appropriate PPE being utilized at all times.
Duties and responsibilities
- Order and inventory materials needed to maintain supplies
- Analyze samples and provide accurate results and provide support for making process decisions based upon test results
- Document and communicate all issues regarding product quality, instruments, production
- Document and communicate all data for receivables tracking and verification
- Maintain knowledge of plant processes, general chemistry/microbiology, and theory of lab analysis
- Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot, adjust and repair routine equipment issues
- Ensure operations analytical instrumentation is properly maintained and calibrated
- Ability to follow procedures
- Ensure that all data is as accurate and precise as analytically possible via efficient and timely qc data
- Ability to recognize any potential issues and address them calmly and professionally
· Test and set up lab equipment
· Use complex lab machinery and computer programs to conduct tests
· Collect and interpret data; prepare reports
· Report any health and safety issues
· Maintain glassware by picking-up, cleaning, washing, and sterilizing
· Order, receive, and inventory new glassware as needed
· Ensure successful testing by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs
· Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
· Resolve problems as they arise by examining and evaluating data
· Complete projects by assisting project team; attend and participate in team, department, and all-hands meetings
Qualifications
- B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related science
- Or 2+ years experience
- Able to visually observe lab tests and discriminate subtle differences
- Capable of using precision-measuring testing equipment
- Ability to operate in multiple environments; including a plant environment, lab environment, and office environment
- Ability to work overtime as needed
Salary: Commensurate with Experience and Abilities.
