Position Summary
The OCB Historian/Archivist is responsible for helping preserve, organize, document, digitize, and maintain the historical record of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, including Radio Martí, TV Martí, and related digital and multimedia content. The position supports the development and maintenance of OCB’s historical archive and archival database and ensures that historically significant materials are accurately described, cataloged, preserved, and accessible for institutional and Agency purposes.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

Research, identify, organize, and document historically significant OCB content, including Radio Martí and TV Martí programs, recordings, photographs, documents, digital materials, media brands, and other legacy content.

Maintain and update OCB’s historical archival database, ensuring that dates, program titles, names, descriptions, metadata, and content tags are accurate and consistent.

Review digitization and cataloging work performed by contractors or vendors to ensure that deliverables accurately reflect archival records, established descriptions, metadata requirements, and applicable archival standards.

Maintain logs documenting revisions to archival database entries to ensure accuracy, accountability, and complete version control.

Assist in organizing, maintaining, archiving, and digitizing historical OCB content, including files, recordings, documents, and legacy media obtained from approved Agency repositories such as e-mail, Dropbox, SharePoint, and shared drives.

Organize and maintain archival and digitization project folders; apply consistent file-naming conventions, organize digital assets, and upload materials to designated shared repositories.

Develop and maintain descriptions, inventories, tags, and other identifying information necessary to facilitate the retrieval and management of historical OCB materials.

Coordinate with OCB leadership, staff, subject-matter experts, and other stakeholders to verify historical information and ensure the accuracy and completeness of archival records.

Identify historically significant Radio Martí and TV Martí broadcasts, programs, events, personalities, and institutional milestones for preservation and inclusion in OCB’s historical archive.

Prepare general descriptions and historical summaries of significant Radio Martí, TV Martí, and OCB content for use in Agency external communications, institutional history, commemorative materials, and outreach products, consistent with applicable National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) requirements and Agency policies.

Assist in preserving OCB institutional memory by identifying records and audiovisual materials of enduring historical significance and supporting their proper organization, digitization, and long-term preservation.

Perform other historical research, archival, digitization, and records-management duties necessary to support OCB and Agency requirements.
More than 10 years of relevant professional experience
Proficiency with SPSS, R, Stata, Python, or some other statistical software
Research Analyst, I-III
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
An understanding—if not direct experience—of research, particularly, in different countries and with
people of different cultures.
Ability to work independently, but also with other specialists with expertise in media strategy, media
development, and media effects, to deliver insights into the agency’s performance
Knowledge of marketing, media development, media effects, or mass communication is a plus
Experience living or working outside the United States, either through academic or professional
experiences, is a plus
Fluency in English is required; fluency in a major USAGM broadcast language (Russian, Spanish, French,
Arabic, Mandarin) is a plus
Experience conducting marketing research to understand people’s opinions, preferences, and
behaviors
Experience working with statistical analysis software packages such as SPSS, R, Python
Experience drafting market or audience analysis reports with guidance from other team members
Experience writing and communicating about research results and analyses in accurate, concise, and in
a way that is easily understood by non-research audiences
Experience conducting descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, including but not limited to ttests,
regression, and cluster analyses
Experience validating, cleaning, and merging datasets
Experience designing surveys, particularly administered to foreign populations
Experience with survey management software such as SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, or other is a plus
Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques and a
demonstrated record of accomplishment of a continuously growing skill set
Candidate will be asked to work with a small dataset to create a short data memo (2-3 page) in order to
demonstrate their skill-level
Candidate will be asked to create a sample research design based on a hypothetical research question
