Overnight Support Staff

Bright Horizons Recovery Home — Millcreek, Utah (Salt Lake City Metro)

Position Details

Reports To

Program Manager

Full-Time Schedule

40 hours/week; overnight shifts (typically 10 PM – 8 AM or similar), including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis

Part-Time Schedule

16–30 hours/week; overnight shifts as scheduled, including weekends and holidays

FLSA Status

Non-Exempt (Hourly)

License Required

No license required; CPR/First Aid required within 30 days of hire

About Bright Horizons

Bright Horizons Recovery Home is an 8-bed residential treatment center in Millcreek, Utah operating an integrated co-occurring clinical model, informed by IDDT principles. We provide psychiatric stabilization, medication management, individual therapy, and structured recovery programming for adults with mental and behavioral health and substance use disorders, including co-occurring presentations. We operate under Utah Administrative Code R501-19.

Position Summary

The Overnight Support Staff member maintains safety, structure, and therapeutic environment during overnight hours at Bright Horizons Recovery Home. This is an awake, on-shift position responsible for continuous resident monitoring, safety checks, documentation, and appropriate crisis response while most clinical staff are off-site. The Overnight Support Staff works closely with daytime Behavioral Health Technicians, the Program Manager, and the on-call clinical team to ensure seamless resident care across all hours of the program.

Core Responsibilities

Remain awake and on duty for the entirety of each assigned shift
Conduct and document scheduled overnight safety checks of residents per program protocol
Monitor resident safety, behavior, and emotional status throughout the shift; document observations accurately in SimplePractice
Enforce overnight program structure including lights-out, quiet hours, and bed-check expectations
Respond to resident needs, sleep disruptions, medical concerns, or emotional distress calmly and professionally
De-escalate situations using trauma-informed techniques; contact on-call clinical staff, the Program Manager, or 911 as appropriate
Administer and document overnight medications under clinical supervision per MAR protocol when scheduled
Perform overnight environmental rounds — check exits, doors, common areas, and alarm systems; report any safety or maintenance concerns immediately
Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic milieu; complete assigned overnight tasks such as laundry, light cleaning, and common-area resets
Document all significant events, incidents, and communications in the overnight log and in SimplePractice as required
Provide a thorough verbal and written shift handoff to the incoming day team, including any overnight incidents, medication events, or resident concerns
Respond to unplanned resident departures following AWOL and walk-out protocols
Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and supervision as scheduled
Other duties as assigned to support the daily operations of the program
This position requires the physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, lift and carry up to 50 lbs (e.g., supplies, equipment), and respond rapidly to emergent situations, including de-escalation or physical intervention when necessary to ensure client and staff safety.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field preferred
Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health, residential care, overnight care, or a related human services setting preferred
Lived experience in recovery considered an asset
Current CPR/First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire
Demonstrated ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout overnight shifts
Ability to work independently with sound judgment and appropriate escalation to on-call clinical staff
Strong observation, documentation, and written communication skills
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain professional boundaries
Ability to work calmly and effectively in a quiet environment with periodic high-acuity situations
