Full Job Description

Discover Tahoe Chartered Cruises LLC is hiring contractor boat captains to operate its fleet of boat rentals. (THIS IS A GIG APPLICATION IS FOR WEEKENDS ONLY (FRIDAY-SUNDAY).

Why us?

DTCC is a professional charter boat company that operates out of world famous Lake Tahoe. Captains can work up to 25 hours per week if desired. DTCC offers steady charters for each captain. All DTCC watercraft are newer and in excellent condition. Captains will be able to operate tours from cruising to fishing to watersports.

How it works...

DTCC has a fleet of boats that go out as a bareboat rental. That means that captains will be able to operate various watercraft up to 12 people (even 13 in some cases). Captains will have access to each days manifests including details of each trip. Captains will sign a contract entitling them to a designated payment per hour and hours per week desired. Captains are legally hired by the renter and paid by a LLC most times same day. Captains are on call from May 1st until Memorial Day Weekend. Between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day weekend captains are required to adhere to negotiable hours in the contract. Captains will sign a weekly schedule of their availabilities. Captains are on call status after Labor Day Weekend thru weather depending (December in 2026).

Responsibilities/Requirements

Captains will obtain or possess a U.S. Coast Guard captains license (Minimum 6-pack but Master of any tonnage preferred).

Captains will have the ability to operate watercraft under 5Gts (gross tons). All watercraft are between 20 feet and 25 feet.

Captains will speak, read, write, and understand fluent English.

Captains must be able to pass a drug screening in the event of an SMI (Company Requirement).

Captains must have their CPR/BLS/1st Aide card current during service.

Typical Day...

The first rentals go out at 10:00 (sometimes earlier if required) and the last ones come in at sunset. Rentals are between 2 and 8 hours in duration. Captains are not responsible for making sure renters have signed contracts. Captains will meet their clients at the office and walk them to the watercraft. They will ensure that everyone gets aboard the watercraft safely and continue with the safety brief. After captains come back into the marina, they will drop the renters off at the fuel dock and ensure that the renter has paid for the fuel used during the rental.

Pay/Perks...

Captains are paid between $35.00 per hour to $45.00 per hour depending on experience. Captains that do not have much experience can gain the maximum wage during the contract period.

Housing assistance and initial transportation assistance.

Captains who do not currently possess their captains license can be sponsored. (Must currently meet USCG requirements for the license/DTCC will not sign any sea service forms) (Requirements available at the USCG NMC website). Captain sponsorship is available between September 1st and January 1st. Please note is takes between 3-6 months go get your MMC.

Captains who have recently undergone training are eligible for tuition reimbursement for classes required to obtain license.

Captains get 90% discounts on bookings during non-peak times.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
