Job Overview
We seek a detail-oriented Bankruptcy Paralegal to join our growing and fast-paced firm in Southfield, Michigan. In this role, you will support attorneys in all stages of bankruptcy proceedings, including case preparation, document management, and client communication.
The ideal candidate must be able to handle challenging situations, multitask, and complete work at nearly every stage of the bankruptcy process. Our cases typically involve a high volume of standard forms that must be processed in a timely manner, making organizational skills and time management essential.
The Bankruptcy Paralegal will work to assist our creditors and must possess a broad knowledge of bankruptcy procedures specific to the state of Michigan. The successful candidate will be a leader, an initiative-taker, and a multitasker who works well under pressure and consistently follows through on tasks. We are seeking a dedicated Bankruptcy Paralegal who leads by example, keeps the team focused on priorities and results, and keeps management and the team informed of any changes.

Job Responsibilities
Case Management
- Assist attorneys in preparing bankruptcy filings, including petitions, schedules, statements of financial affairs, and reorganization plans
- Maintain electronic and physical case files, organizing documents, pleadings, and correspondence under court requirements and firm protocols
- Monitor case deadlines and manage calendars to ensure timely compliance with court orders, filings, and hearings
Document Review and Analysis
- Conduct thorough reviews of financial records, contracts, agreements, and other relevant documents to identify assets, liabilities, and potential claims
- Analyze debtor's financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements to assess economic viability and develop strategies for bankruptcy proceedings
- Prepare summaries and reports of findings for attorneys, highlighting key issues and recommendations for action
Client Communication and Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, creditors, and other parties involved in bankruptcy proceedings, responding to inquiries and providing status updates as needed
- Coordinate meetings, conference calls, and document exchanges between attorneys and clients, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the process
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, and motions for attorney review and filing with bankruptcy courts and regulatory agencies
Court Filings and Proceedings
- Prepare and file bankruptcy petitions, motions, notices, and other court documents electronically or in person, adhering to local rules and procedures
- Assist attorneys in preparing for bankruptcy hearings, trials, and meetings of creditors, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and presentation materials
- Attend court proceedings as necessary to provide support to attorneys and clients, taking notes and recording key developments for case management purposes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or equivalent education and experience required; Paralegal Certification highly preferred
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience working as a bankruptcy paralegal in a bankruptcy practice.
- Proficiency in bankruptcy software applications (e.g., CLS, PACER) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and external stakeholders
Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and contribute to every aspect of a team environment.
