Full Job Description

This position is responsible for the general and day-to-day operations of our child care center with private child care. This position is responsible for assuring regulatory and legal compliance with federal, state and local regulations, communicating with parents and the community and supervision and monitoring of staff. The ideal candidate leads by example, is highly organized, flexible and a team player. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for leading, training, and nurturing a team of teachers and child care professionals.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES - - ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develops and monitors center and staff schedules.
Arranges to have substitutes/volunteers for the center classrooms.
Arranges with parents and staff work days for center improvements, fairs, events, etc.
Responsible for monthly safety checks, fire drills and safety meetings as well as updating logs.
Investigates any child or staff incidents, assuring all forms are complete and notifying the appropriate authorities and/or supervisor.
Facilitate/attends staff and parent meetings.
Receives and responds to verbal and written complaints about the center and follows NEST Policies and Procedures, licensing regulations as well as Early Head Start and GSRP regulations.
Implements and supports “best practices” in early education programming in conjunction with the early childhood staff when applicable.
Provide sufficient and appropriate outdoor time daily for children.
Responsible for monitoring and compliance with applicable local, state and federal rules, regulations and standards as well as health, safety and licensing regulations.
Responsible for assuring compliance with quality assurance and program evaluation requirements.
Meets with parents and community members as appropriate.

RECORD KEEPING AND FISCAL

Monitors staff attendance, collects and signs Hours Worked Report and leave requests, verifying accuracy. Create reports for payroll.
Monitor and track child care meal attendance and other CACFP reporting documents. Perform monthly CACFP billing.
Monitor and track DHS eligibility, enrollment and billing.
Maintains filing, tracking and documentation systems.
Submits verbal and/or written reports to Executive Director and Program Coordinators on the activities and status of the center on a regular basis.
Monitors employee on-site file requirements and keeps them secure in locked files.
Assists in the monitoring of all children’s files for content, organization and security.
Assists in the identification, purchase and inventory of center supplies and equipment in accordance with the budget.

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

Conducts staff meetings and arranges for training including Family Nights and Parent Committees. Maintains minutes, sign in sheets, in-kind forms, training logs, etc.
Provides supervision and coaching of staff.
Provides guidance and oversight to staff through monitoring.
Assists manager/specialist/coordinator in charge of early childhood education to work with individual Teachers to develop training plans for obtaining a BA degree or higher in Early Childhood Education.
Coordinates professional development for staff.
Responsible for participating in training opportunities and appropriate committees as appropriate.
Responsible for day-to-day operations of the center.

GENERAL JOB DUTIES--ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities.
Responsible for understanding Head Start Performance Standards, Nest Policies and Procedures and the Michigan Child Care Licensing Regulations.
Expected to be knowledgeable of the regulations associated with prevention of occupational disease and injury, including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination.
Plans and directs the work of the staff supervised. Observes and gives feedback to staff or volunteers supervised where applicable and other staff as assigned on at least a weekly basis.
Determines appropriate training needs to meet the program goals and objectives and makes the necessary recommendations.
Develops and supports the professional development plan for staff supervised.
Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Monitors compliance with licensing, head start, GSRP and other program policies and procedures.
Develops and implements a plan and system of continuous ongoing monitoring and evaluation of activities within the program.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirement is a BA in Early Childhood or Child Development. In addition, this position requires at least 2 years experience as a Early Head Start/GSRP/Preschool Teacher. Previous management and supervision experience is preferred. Ability to meet the Michigan State Child Care Licensing requirement(s) for “site director.”
