Full Job Description

Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: Production Supervisor / Manufacturing Manager
Status: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $25.00 - $45.00 / DOE

Position Summary

The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machine tools to manufacture precision parts that meet customer specifications and quality requirements. This position requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings, select proper tooling, perform machine setups, inspect finished parts, and maintain productivity while adhering to all safety and quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machining centers.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and work instructions.
Select and install cutting tools, fixtures, and work holding devices.
Load CNC programs and make approved tool wear or offset adjustments.
Verify first article parts and perform in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
Produce parts within specified tolerances.
Monitor machine performance and identify machining issues before they affect quality.
Maintain required production rates while minimizing scrap.
Document inspection results and production information accurately.
Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work area clean and organized.
Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
Work closely with programmers, quality inspectors, and production control to resolve manufacturing issues.
Participate in continuous improvement activities.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
Minimum of 3 years CNC machining experience (or equivalent training).
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T.
Experience using precision measuring instruments including:
Micrometers
Calipers
Height Gages
Bore Gages
Thread Gages
Indicators
Strong understanding of machining practices and cutting tools.
Ability to maintain close tolerances.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to lift, up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

Aerospace manufacturing experience.
Experience with 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC machining centers.
Familiarity with Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, Mazak, Siemens, or Heidenhein controls.
Knowledge of Mastercam, CATIA, or other CAM software.
Experience machining aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, Inconel, and other aerospace alloys.
Knowledge of AS9100 quality requirements.
First Article Inspection (FAI) experience.
Crane and forklift certification (or ability to obtain).

Strong mechanical aptitude.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to troubleshoot machining problems.
Good mathematical skills including geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Commitment to producing high-quality work.

Physical Requirements

Frequently stand, walk, bend, and reach throughout the shift.
Lift materials that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Manual dexterity is required to operate machinery and measuring equipment.
Ability to work around machine noise, coolant, and metal chips while wearing required PPE.

Work Environment

Climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
Exposure to moving machinery, cutting fluids, and metal chips.
Required use of safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
