SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER – DATA CENTER & MISSION-CRITICAL CONSTRUCTION
Reno–Sparks, NV
Teklus Construction | Full-Time | On-Site
Teklus Construction is seeking a Senior Project Manager / Project Management Lead to take ownership of a large, complex, mission-critical construction project in Northern Nevada — leading from preconstruction and estimating through construction, turnover, and closeout.
WHY THIS ROLE
- Full project lifecycle ownership on a mission-critical, tech-sector project — not a coordinator or assistant-level role
- Direct leadership responsibility over project-management staff, with real influence on how the company delivers going forward
- High autonomy: build the systems, anticipate the problems, drive the work with limited executive oversight
WHAT YOU'LL DO
This description reflects the general nature and level of work performed and is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required:
Preconstruction & Estimating
- Lead the project through early planning, estimating, and procurement planning
- Prepare and validate conceptual and detailed estimates, budgets, and cost plans; assist with quantity takeoffs as needed
- Develop scopes of work, bid packages, and subcontractor invitations; identify scope gaps, risks, and qualifications
- Lead constructability reviews and value-engineering recommendations
- Lead the transition from estimating to operations, ensuring the team understands scope, buyout strategy, and risk
Project Execution & Client Relationships
- Assume overall management responsibility from preconstruction and award through final completion
- Direct day-to-day field execution — trade partners, MEP/controls scopes, equipment deliveries, and commissioning
- Serve as primary client point of contact; build trust through proactive communication and align decisions to client priorities like speed to market, uptime, and capacity
- Identify and help capture follow-on and repeat-business opportunities
- Coordinate the broader stakeholder ecosystem — design team, owner's reps, equipment vendors, AHJs, and utility providers
Team Leadership & Cost/Contract Management
- Supervise the Project Manager assigned to this project and provide leadership across the broader PM team
- Coach and develop Project Managers, delegating meaningful responsibility and holding them accountable for results
- Manage project budget, commitments, forecasts, and cost-to-complete projections; drive the project to meet profitability targets
- Lead subcontractor buyout and resolve scope gaps before work begins
- Manage change orders, notices, claims documentation, and client approvals
Schedule, Quality & Closeout
- Develop, maintain, and enforce the project schedule; develop recovery plans as needed
- Coordinate quality-control and commissioning appropriate to mission-critical work, where rework carries outsized cost
- Drive closeout planning from the beginning of the project
- Champion an incident-free safety culture in partnership with EHS and field leadership
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
- 10+ years of progressively responsible commercial or industrial construction management experience
- 5+ years in a Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Preconstruction Manager, or comparable leadership role
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex, fast-paced construction projects across both preconstruction and construction-phase management
- Experience managing multiple Project Managers or leading a project-management team
- Strong knowledge of contracts, cost control, forecasting, scheduling, change management, procurement, and closeout
- Proficiency with construction-management, estimating, scheduling, and financial-reporting software
- Ability to work on-site in the Reno–Sparks area and travel as required
Preferred:
- Direct experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, or similarly complex industrial projects
- Experience developing estimates at conceptual through construction-document stages
- Experience with negotiated, design-build, CM-at-risk, or other collaborative delivery methods
- Experience on projects with demanding schedules, extensive stakeholder coordination, and strict confidentiality requirements
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating, BuildingConnected, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
- OSHA 30, PMP, CCM, DBIA, or LEED AP certification
