EVNT is a small event planning and production team based in Spokane Valley, Washington. We produce conferences and events for professional associations and corporate clients throughout Washington and Oregon, handling everything on-site, from staging, audio, and lighting to live video switching and hybrid webcasts. For our clients, the annual conference is the biggest thing their association does all year: an entire profession in one room, a year of planning, one take, live. When the general session lights come up, their year is riding on our work. That's the job.
Event-based work with your choice of W-2 employment or B2B subcontract (details below). Home base: Spokane Valley, WA, with shows across Washington and Oregon. Washington residency required.
Where you'll land in the W-2 range: around $28/hour for techs who can confidently A2 and assist across departments; $34-$38/hour for techs who can independently run audio (A1) or video switching (V1) for a general session.webcasts on Zoom for virtual attendees
TWO WAYS TO WORK WITH US: W-2 OR B2B
Some of the best techs in the Northwest run their own production businesses and want to stay independent. Others want the stability and protections of employment. We work both ways:
- Per-Event Employee (W-2), our default: Hourly and non-exempt, scheduled event-by-event. You earn overtime at time-and-a-half past 40 hours in a week (peak show weeks can get there), accrue Washington paid sick leave, and are covered by workers' compensation and Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave. On out-of-town shows, your travel time is on the clock, and hotels and per diem are fully covered.
- Independent Business Subcontractor (B2B): If you operate an established AV services business (an active Washington UBI and Department of Revenue tax account, your own liability insurance, your own place of business and books, and other clients you serve), we contract business-to-business under a written per-event agreement at negotiated rates (typically above our W-2 hourly range, since you cover your own taxes, insurance, and expenses), invoiced per event and paid on 14-day terms. Travel and lodging are built into your negotiated rate or billed as line items on your invoice.
W-2 is the default lane, and it's the right one for most techs. The B2B lane is only for techs who genuinely run their own business, and we'll confirm the right fit together during your tech chat. Not sure? Apply anyway; that's exactly what the chat is for.
THE EVENT RHYTHM & PEAK SEASONS
- Peak Seasons (Busiest Months): Spring (March through June) and Fall (September through November). During these months, you can expect back-to-back event production weeks, multi-day on-site travel, and higher hours.
- What peak actually looks like: At peak we're running roughly 4-7 events per month, most with 3-5 days on-site and show days of 8-12 hours including load-in and strike. You won't crew every one, but peak months keep our regular techs busy.
- Quieter Months: Mid-summer (July and August) and mid-winter (December through February) are typically lighter, giving us time to rest, maintain equipment, and prep for the next busy season.
- Advance Notice: Most of our events are booked a year in advance, so you'll have long-term visibility into the event calendar. You can keep freelancing for other companies; we're happy to be one anchor client on your calendar.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Audio Setup & Operations: Help set up digital mixers, powered speakers, wireless mic racks, and ground-supported PA setups. Conduct sound checks and manage audio clarity during general sessions.
- Video & Hybrid Streaming: Build projection screens, line up projectors, set up PTZ cameras, and run video switchers. Support live stream webcasts on Zoom for virtual attendeesPTZ cameras, Zoom hybrid webcasts, projection.
- Lighting & Staging: Set up pipe and drape to floor plans. Address DMX fixtures, set stage lighting washes, and patch controllers.
- Backstage Slide Management: Run presentation computers managing client slide decks and video playback.
- Load-In & Strike: Assist with loading equipment in and out of company vehicles, run cable paths dressed to our show standard (over-under, taped, and tidy), and help troubleshoot gear issues on show day.
Our standard kit: digital mixing consoles, wireless mic systems, PTZ cameras, Zoom hybrid webcasts, projection, and DMX-controlled stage lighting. Tell us what you've run; signal flow is signal flow.
WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN
- Pathway to the Core Team (W-2 track): We start event-by-event because that's how both sides find out if it works. For a W-2 tech who nails call times, works clean, and clicks with clients, our goal is a full-time, year-round seat with a bigger piece of every show. We expect to know within 4-6 events whether that's you, and we'll tell you where you stand either way. Independent subcontractors stay independent; if you ever want a core-team seat, that move happens by joining payroll.
- Covered Expenses: For W-2 techs, hotels, travel, and daily per diem are fully paid whenever you're working an event out of town (beyond the greater Spokane area), and travel time is on the clock. For B2B subcontractors, travel and lodging are part of your negotiated rate or invoiced as line items.
- Organized Shows: We pride ourselves on clear call sheets, solid prep work, and well-maintained equipment so show days run smoothly.
- Level Up (W-2 track): Work alongside experienced lead producers on advanced hybrid production, staging, and client-facing show management.

- You'll thrive here if: You stay calm at 7:00 AM doors (they open whether we're ready or not), treat call times as hard commitments, keep cable runs clean even when nobody's looking, and like being the person who quietly fixes things.
- This isn't for you if: You need every workday to look the same, prefer staying behind the console with zero client contact, or see load-out as someone else's job.
QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- 1-2 years of live AV experience in corporate events, staging, theater, or houses of worship.
- Solid understanding of live signal flow across audio, video switching, and basic DMX lighting.
- Experience running presentation software (PowerPoint) and web platforms like Zoom.
- Physical Requirements: Ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to stand, walk, kneel, and bend for extended periods during show setup and execution, and to regularly lift, carry, and maneuver equipment weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted, handling items exceeding 50 lbs using team lifts, dollies, carts, or ramps.
- Scheduling: W-2 techs need flexible availability during peak months, including early calls, evening wraps, and occasional weekend shows. B2B subcontractors accept or decline each event on their own calendar; call times for events you book are contractual commitments.
- Must be 21 or older (required by federal DOT rules for interstate truck driving) and authorized to work in the United States.
- Must live in Washington State. Being in the greater Spokane area is a plus (our shop and most load-outs start here), but it's not required.
- Driving: Valid driver's license, an insurable driving record, and the ability to obtain a DOT medical card are required (we pay for the DOT physical); techs drive our 16' and 26' box trucks to move equipment between the shop and venues.
- For B2B subcontractors: the business requirements listed above, verified before your first event.
QUICK ANSWERS
- Is travel time paid? For W-2 techs, yes: travel hours are on the clock, and hotels and per diem are covered. For B2B subcontractors, travel and lodging are built into your negotiated rate or invoiced as line items.
- Is the trial paid? Yes. The trial is working a full event with us at the rate we agree on in your tech chat: on payroll if W-2, invoiced under your subcontract if B2B. It's a normal paid gig with travel handled like any other show, not a discount test day.
- Do I need my own gear or truck? No. We provide the equipment and the trucks; bring your hand tools if you have them.
- W-2 or B2B, which am I? W-2 is the default. B2B is only for techs who run a genuine AV business (active UBI and DOR tax account, insurance, their own place of business, other clients). Getting paid on 1099s by other companies doesn't by itself make you a B2B business; if that's you, W-2 is your lane, and it comes with overtime, sick leave, paid family leave, and workers' comp.
- Do I have to live in Spokane? No. You need to live in Washington State. Spokane-area techs have the shortest trip to our shop and load-outs, but we're flexible.
- Can I keep working for other production companies? Yes. We book far ahead so you can plan around us.
- When would I start? We're crewing our fall 2026 season now and review applications as they arrive.
