The 90+ Project is a youth development organization focused on building community, eliminating barriers to soccer participation and using the beautiful game to model character, leadership and mental wellness. We offer soccer and youth development programs for everyone; regardless of one’s ability to pay.
90+ PROJECT POSITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this role:
- Is committed to a more welcoming Spokane. This person has experience working in and building community; ideally in a sports based youth development organization. They have familiarity with inclusive practices, passion for the impact sports can have on the holistic development of youth, and are passionate about serving youth in a way that empowers them to reach their fullest potential.
- Is a self starter who embraces and embodies the vision and values of The 90+ Project and is eager to build meaningful connections as a member of a highly functioning team. Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. They would also understand and be committed to 90+’s pay-what-you-can model, ensuring inclusivity and affordability and would work to strengthen ways to center the voices of participating youth and infuse character, leadership and mental skills into program design.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Working collaboratively with 90+ team members and volunteers, the Coordinator of Recreational Programming will be responsible for the administration and management 90+’s recreational soccer based youth programming. Major emphasis and responsibilities will be in the areas of program quality, player and team formation, volunteer coach recruitment, and connecting our organization with the Spokane community. The ideal candidate will be passionate about youth development, have experience working with diverse communities, and a proven track record in soccer leadership.

MISSION CENTERED PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the recreational program. Implement continuous program improvement processes and establish new program activities as needed to better serve community members and support the organization's strategic direction.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices in youth sports development and craft youth programs that align with the organization's overall development goals and prioritize inclusivity, ensuring that children from marginalized and underserved communities feel welcome, represented, and valued.
- Organize parent education sessions to help families support their young athletes' development, understand their role as parents, and better understand the philosophy and mission of 90+.
- Identify opportunities to expand recreational programming through additional training nights, neighborhood locations, seasonal clinics, technical development opportunities, and family-centered soccer experiences as organizational capacity grows.
LEAGUE PLAY
- Oversee and develop the 90+ recreational program, creating a positive, safe, supportive, and inclusive soccer environment for all players, coaches and families where all, regardless of background or ability, feel encouraged to participate.
- Cultivate a positive, welcoming, and development-focused experience for every player, coach, volunteer, and family.
- Provide overall leadership for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Fall and Spring recreational soccer seasons.
- Design and coordinate end-of-season celebrations, family festivals, and recognition events that celebrate player growth, community, and the accomplishments of coaches and volunteers.
- Elevate weekend match days into memorable community experiences that encourage connection, sportsmanship, and family engagement.
RECREATIONAL PLAYER TRAINING and COACH DEVELOPMENT
- Partner with the Director of Programming to implement a unified recreational curriculum for both Fall and Spring seasons that reflects the 90+ Player Development Philosophy, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, & integrity in young players' development. Promote leadership, mental health awareness, & help players balance academics & sports commitments, making sure holistic player development takes first priority.
- Design, organize, and oversee weekly training sessions, ensuring every practice is well-prepared, developmentally appropriate, and enjoyable for players of all abilities.
- Equip volunteer coaches through ongoing training, mentorship, and practical resources that build both coaching confidence and coaching competency. Foster meaningful relationships with coaches, providing encouragement, feedback, and continued support throughout each season.
- Collaborate with program directors to thoughtfully place players on developmentally appropriate teams while maintaining the organization's player-centered philosophy.
- Work directly with the 90+ Staff to facilitate the transition of players from the recreational programs to developmental programming; recruiting players and teams from within 90+ to move from the recreational side to developmental side of the program when developmentally appropriate.VOLUNTEER & COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
- Recruit, equip, and coordinate volunteers to assist with training setup, field preparation, and operational excellence during training nights and game days to create an outstanding environment throughout the season.
- Partner with the 90+ Staff to identify, recruit, and develop volunteer coaches who embrace the mission and values of the 90+ Project. Onboard and support those volunteers to strengthen every aspect of recreational programming.
- Assist in organizing preseason Coach Preparation Nights, equipping coaches with uniforms, curriculum resources, league expectations, and practical coaching tools.
- Provide ongoing education, mentorship, and encouragement for parent coaches throughout the season, creating pathways for continued coaching growth and leadership development.
- Help cultivate a culture where volunteers feel appreciated, supported, and equipped to make a lasting impact in the lives of players and families.
ADMINISTRATION & COMMUNICATION
- Work alongside administrative staff to coordinate league operations, registration details, team formation, scheduling, seasonal calendars, and program communications.
- Ensure, in partnership with Administration, that all required volunteer screening, background checks, and safety requirements are completed before participation.
- Collaborate with the Sporting Director and administrative team to maintain accurate program calendars, website content, and organizational communications.
- Help tell the story of the recreational program by contributing to social media, website content, newsletters, and communication platforms that celebrate players, coaches, volunteers, and the mission of the 90+ Project.
- Maintain proactive, consistent, and timely communication with players, families, coaches, and volunteers, fostering trust, transparency, and a strong sense of community throughout the season.
- Partner with staff to oversee field preparation, equipment management, and the stewardship of all 90+ recreational program resources.
- Communication and Belonging: Draft thoughtful, clear communications to the community. Ensure that families from all walks of life feel an immediate, undeniable sense of belonging within the program.
- Collaborate closely with administrative staff to secure facilities, coordinate schedules, manage field reservations, and ensure the successful execution of all recreational programming.
- Attend and provide an annual assessment for recreational programming to the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, build authentic relationships & effectively work with racial, socio-economic, & gender diverse communities with a genuine commitment to equity & inclusion.
- Very strong process & project management, with the capacity to manage multiple plans & initiatives simultaneously. Attention to detail; patient and adaptable approach, working with cross-disciplinary teams in a collaborative style; efficiently problem solve with others. Ability to work independently & be goal-oriented with experience directing small teams. Proven ability to manage, high levels of integrity and work ethic with experience in conflict resolution, mediation, and relationship building with key stakeholders along with experience working with and leading volunteers in a not-for-profit environment.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends throughout the soccer seasons.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., social work, education, nonprofit management, sport/recreation management) or equivalent experience; Master's Degree preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in leadership, coaching director, technical director, soccer coaching, or a related role, preferably within youth development or sports organizations.
- Committed to working in a non-traditional work schedule with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
- USSF or United Soccer Coaches license, with plans to continue education
- Ability to walk 2+ miles during trainings and events and ability to lift 50 pounds.

Wages and Time:
o This job will be an hourly position at 14+ hours a week and the salary will be
dependent on experience & commensurate with The 90+ Project pay scale.
o Additional hours may be available for winter training, new initiatives, After School Programming, and recreational program growth.
o This is a sustaining position and includes a performance review with the Executive Director and a board member annually.
