Full Job Description

About the Role

We're a busy, established repair shop with a 10-person team looking for a Full-Charge Bookkeeper & Office Manager to independently own our day-to-day accounting and keep the office running smoothly. This is a hands-on role for someone who has real command of accounting fundamentals — not just data entry — and who takes ownership without needing to be micromanaged.

You'll work closely with the owner and our outside accounting firm, but you will be the person responsible for accurate books, healthy financial processes, and a well-organized office day to day.

What You'll Do

Full-Charge Bookkeeping

Own the full accounting cycle: AP, AR, bank and account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close
Maintain accurate inventory accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) tracking specific to a repair/service shop environment
Apply solid General Ledger and fundamental accounting principles to keep the books clean and audit-ready
Process payroll (via QuickBooks) accurately and on schedule
Prepare financial reports and summaries for the owner
Serve as the primary point of contact for our outside accounting firm on tax prep and financial questions

Office Management

Handle HR-related administrative tasks: onboarding paperwork, timesheet review, PTO tracking, and general employee records
Manage office vendor relationships and recurring services (e.g., uniform/linen service, office supplies, facilities needs)
Provide backup phone and front-office support as part of the team (not the primary/dedicated phone role)
Help ensure the office runs efficiently day-to-day, flagging and solving small operational issues before they become big ones

What You'll Need

5+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, including full-charge bookkeeping (full ownership of the books, not just AP/AR or data entry)
Experience in a service-industry business (repair, auto, HVAC, plumbing, field service, or similar) — required
Construction or WIP-heavy industry experience — a strong plus
Solid understanding of GL and core accounting principles — this is essential, not optional
Demonstrated inventory accounting experience
Comfort working independently with minimal day-to-day oversight, while knowing when to ask questions
Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle bookkeeping and office-management responsibilities
Experience with Sage BusinessWorks and/or QuickBooks preferred; willingness and aptitude to learn Sage BusinessWorks required if not already familiar
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting is a plus, but not required for candidates with strong hands-on experience
