The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Purchasing Agent to support EPD's Purchasing team by managing advanced procurement activities, strengthening supplier relationships, and ensuring material availability for manufacturing operations. This role serves as a senior purchasing resource, providing mentorship to Purchasing Agents while coordinating supplier performance, purchase order execution, expediting, and procurement process improvements.
Working closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Production, Warehouse, Quality, Accounting, and Operations, the Senior Purchasing Agent plays a key role in maintaining supplier reliability, purchasing accuracy, and on-time material availability that supports EPD's commitment to operational excellence. This role focuses on advanced procurement execution and team support rather than direct personnel management.
What You'll Do
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Execute advanced purchasing activities and maintain accurate purchase orders within Global Shop Solutions (GSS).
- Coordinate supplier communications, acknowledgments, delivery commitments, and expediting activities.
- Monitor supplier performance, pricing, lead times, and material availability to minimize production risk.
- Support alternate sourcing, supplier improvement initiatives, and procurement process enhancements.
Purchasing Operations & Material Readiness
- Review open purchase orders, shortages, and critical material requirements.
- Resolve purchase order, receiving, invoice, and supplier discrepancies with cross-functional teams.
- Support Purchase Price Variance (PPV) reviews and cost accuracy initiatives.
- Help ensure production readiness through proactive material planning and supplier follow-up.
Team Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Mentor and support Purchasing Agents by reinforcing purchasing standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Warehouse, Production, Quality, Accounting, and Supply Chain teams.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new purchasing personnel.
- Communicate procurement risks, supplier concerns, and recommended actions to leadership.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, reports, and supplier documentation.
- Analyze purchasing trends, supplier performance, and procurement metrics.
- Recommend process improvements that increase purchasing efficiency and supplier reliability.
- Support ERP accuracy, reporting enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Bring
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Procurement, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of purchasing, procurement, sourcing, or manufacturing experience.
- Experience within a manufacturing environment; electrical equipment or engineer-to-order manufacturing preferred.
- Experience using ERP systems such as Global Shop Solutions (GSS), SAP, Epicor, Oracle, or similar platforms.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, analytical, and purchasing reporting skills.
- Excellent supplier communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior purchasing personnel preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and urgency.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday in office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Ability to travel throughout manufacturing, warehouse, and office areas to support procurement activities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to use computers and office equipment for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), CPSM, CSCP, or CPIM certification.
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt or Green Belt certification.
- Experience with Global Shop Solutions (GSS).
- Experience supporting electrical equipment, switchgear, or engineer-to-order manufacturing.
- Knowledge of MRP, Kanban, inventory planning, supplier scorecards, and procurement analytics.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
