Position Summary
The Rehabilitation Technician assists providers in delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centered rehabilitative care. The Rehab Tech works under the direction and supervision of the treating provider and helps patients perform prescribed therapeutic exercises, rehabilitation activities, and approved supportive therapies.
The primary goal of this position is to ensure patients perform provider-prescribed rehabilitation correctly, safely, consistently, and efficiently while maintaining excellent documentation and patient flow.
Primary Responsibilities1. Therapeutic Exercise Assistance
- Instruct patients in provider-prescribed therapeutic exercises.
- Demonstrate proper exercise technique and positioning.
- Monitor repetitions, resistance, sets, duration, and patient tolerance.
- Correct improper exercise technique within established protocols.
- Set up resistance bands, weights, balance equipment, exercise balls, and other rehabilitation equipment.
- Report pain, weakness, dizziness, neurologic symptoms, or unexpected responses to the treating provider.
- Document exercises performed according to office procedures.
- Progress exercises only when authorized by the treating provider.
2. Neuromuscular & Functional Rehabilitation
Assist patients with prescribed programs addressing:
- Balance and proprioception
- Postural control
- Spinal stabilization
- Core activation
- Cervical stabilization
- Scapular stabilization
- Shoulder mechanics
- Hip and pelvic stabilization
- Knee and patellar control
- Ankle stability
- Coordination
- Functional movement
- Gait-related exercises
The Rehab Tech does not independently diagnose impairments or establish a rehabilitation plan of care.
3. Therapy & Equipment Assistance
Prepare patients and equipment for provider-ordered therapies that the Rehab Tech is legally permitted, appropriately trained, and authorized to assist with.
Depending on office protocols and applicable scope/supervision requirements, responsibilities may include equipment setup and patient assistance involving:
- Electrical stimulation
- Heat and cold therapy
- Intersegmental traction
- Spinal decompression
- Laser therapy
- Shockwave therapy
- HEIT
- PEMF
- Infrared therapy
- Hydromassage
- Other approved rehabilitation or wellness equipment
The Rehab Tech must follow provider orders, manufacturer safety requirements, office protocols, and applicable Florida scope-of-practice and supervision requirements.
4. Patient Monitoring
Continuously observe patients during rehabilitation for:
- Increased pain
- Abnormal fatigue
- Loss of balance
- Poor exercise tolerance
- Dizziness
- Shortness of breath
- New numbness or tingling
- New weakness
- Changes in gait
- Inability to perform the prescribed activity
- Other unexpected reactions
Immediately stop or modify activity according to established office protocol and notify the supervising provider when clinically indicated.
5. Documentation
Accurately record required information, including:
- Exercises performed
- Sets and repetitions
- Resistance or weight
- Duration
- Patient tolerance
- Assistance or cueing provided
- Functional difficulties observed
- Patient response
- Activities not completed and reason
- Relevant information communicated to the provider
The Rehab Tech must never fabricate, backdate, or independently alter clinical findings.
6. Patient Flow
- Prepare rehabilitation areas before patient arrival.
- Review provider orders before beginning treatment.
- Escort patients to appropriate treatment areas.
- Keep patients moving efficiently through prescribed treatment.
- Coordinate with chiropractic assistants, providers, front desk staff, and other clinical personnel.
- Prepare equipment before each treatment.
- Clean and reset stations immediately following treatment.
- Help maintain an organized clinical schedule.
7. Patient Education
Reinforce provider-approved instructions regarding:
- Exercise technique
- Posture
- Home exercises
- Body mechanics
- Ergonomics
- Proper use of rehabilitation equipment
- Injury-prevention strategies
The Rehab Tech should not independently provide diagnoses, prognoses, treatment recommendations, or medical advice.
8. Safety & Infection Control
- Clean and disinfect equipment between patients.
- Maintain treatment areas in a clean and professional condition.
- Inspect rehabilitation equipment for damage or malfunction.
- Follow infection-control procedures.
- Follow emergency procedures.
- Maintain appropriate patient privacy.
- Report equipment or safety concerns immediately.
9. Professional Expectations
The Rehab Tech is expected to:
- Provide professional and compassionate patient service.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Arrive on time and prepared for assigned duties.
- Maintain professional appearance and communication.
- Follow provider instructions and established clinical protocols.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Avoid discussing diagnoses or treatment recommendations outside their authorized role.
- Communicate concerns promptly to the treating provider.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or required by office policy.
- Previous chiropractic, physical rehabilitation, athletic training, exercise science, medical assisting, or fitness experience preferred.
- Ability to learn anatomy, rehabilitation terminology, exercise protocols, and clinical documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to safely demonstrate common rehabilitation exercises.
- Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be capable of:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Demonstrating exercises.
- Squatting, bending, reaching, and kneeling.
- Assisting with patient positioning when appropriate.
- Moving rehabilitation equipment.
- Safely lifting approximately 25–50 pounds as required by assigned duties.
- Performing repetitive equipment setup and cleaning.

Performance will be evaluated based on:
Patient Safety: Follows protocols and recognizes abnormal patient responses.
Exercise Accuracy: Patients perform prescribed exercises using appropriate technique.
Documentation: Records services accurately, completely, and promptly.
Patient Flow: Maintains efficient movement through the rehabilitation department.
Patient Experience: Communicates professionally and provides attentive care.
Clinical Communication: Promptly reports significant findings or changes to the provider.
Equipment Management: Maintains clean, organized, properly prepared rehabilitation stations.
Teamwork: Works effectively with providers, chiropractic assistants, front office staff, and other clinical personnel.
Core Principle
The Rehab Tech's role is to carry out and reinforce the provider-established rehabilitation plan safely and consistently—not independently establish the patient's diagnosis or treatment plan.
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
