Build Things That Aren’t Built Every Day.
Softspace Exhibits is looking for a skilled, dependable Metal Fabricator to join our production team.
We design and build custom trade show exhibits, branded environments, displays, and one-of-a-kind structures for clients across the country. That means our metal department isn't a repetitive production line.
One week you may be building structural frames for a custom exhibit. Next, you could be fabricating a reception desk, sign structure, display fixture, or something we've never built before.
We're looking for someone who enjoys that kind of work.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Metal Fabricator at Softspace, you'll turn drawings and ideas into finished components that integrate with the rest of our builds.
You'll be responsible for:
- Fabricating custom metal components from drawings, dimensions, and shop plans
- Measuring, cutting, fitting, welding, grinding, and finishing metal
- TIG welding primarily aluminum but metal as well as required by the project
- Building frames, brackets, bases, supports, fixtures, and custom structures
- Producing clean welds and finished pieces suitable for client-facing environments
- Working accurately to dimensions and tolerances
- Drilling, tapping, fastening, and assembling fabricated components
- Working with our design and production teams to determine practical fabrication solutions
- Identifying potential problems before a project reaches final assembly
- Helping develop smarter, stronger, and more efficient ways to build custom components
- Maintaining an organized and safe metal fabrication area
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who takes pride in what leaves their workbench.
The right person is:
- A Fabricator - You understand how things go together and can take raw material and turn it into a finished product.
- A Problem Solver - Custom fabrication doesn't always come with perfect instructions. You can look at a challenge, think through it, and help develop a practical solution.
- Accurate - In our shop, being off by 1/4" can create problems for several other departments. You measure carefully and understand the importance of building to the drawing.
- Quality Focused - You care what the finished product looks like—not just whether it holds together.
- Dependable - Our projects have hard ship dates. The rest of the production team needs to be able to count on you.
- A Team Player - Metal fabrication is one piece of a much larger build. You'll work alongside designers, wood fabrication, graphics, fabric, and our setup team to bring projects together.
SKILLS WE VALUE
Experience with the following is highly valuable:
- TIG welding
- Roller Bender
- Steel fabrication
- Aluminum fabrication
- Reading fabrication drawings and dimensions
- Metal saws and cutting equipment
- Grinders and finishing tools
- Drill presses and hand drills
- Drilling and tapping
- Layout and measurement
- Jigs and fixtures
- General shop tools
- Custom or prototype fabrication
Experience in trade show fabrication, scenic fabrication, architectural metalwork, custom displays, signage, exhibits, or similar custom manufacturing is a major plus—but not required if you have strong fabrication skills and are willing to learn our industry.
THIS POSITION MAY BE A GREAT FIT IF...
You like looking at a drawing and figuring out how to actually build it.
You'd rather build 20 different things than manufacture the same part 2,000 times.
You notice when something isn't square.
You take an extra minute to clean up a weld because you care what your work looks like.
You can be handed an unusual fabrication problem and your first reaction is:
"Alright, let's figure out how to build it."
WHAT MAKES SOFTSPACE DIFFERENT
At Softspace, our production team doesn't simply manufacture products.
We build ideas.
Every project brings different materials, dimensions, challenges, and deadlines. Our metal department works alongside multiple production disciplines to create exhibits that eventually come together on trade show floors across the country.
You'll get to see something go from a drawing on a screen, to raw material in the shop, to a completely finished environment.
And you'll be able to point at part of it and say:
"I built that."
POSITION
Metal Fabricator - Full-Time
Compensation is based on experience and skill level.
If you're an experienced fabricator who takes pride in your work, enjoys solving problems, and wants to build something different from the ordinary production-shop environment, we'd like to hear from you.
Join the Softspace production team and help us build what comes next.
