As we continue to expand our heavy civil and utility construction operations, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Foreman – Lift Stations & Underground Utilities to join our field operations team.
Position Summary
The Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily field construction activities related to lift stations, pump stations, force mains, gravity sewer systems, and underground utility installations. Reporting directly to the Superintendent, this role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans, specifications, and company standards.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, hands-on underground utility construction experience, and the ability to direct crews while maintaining high standards for safety, productivity, and workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Field Execution & Supervision
- Supervise daily on-site construction activities.
- Lead and direct field crews in the installation of lift stations and underground utilities.
- Ensure proper installation of pumps, piping, valves, manholes, wet wells, and utility systems.
- Verify layout, elevations, slopes, and measurements per drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate excavation, trenching, pipe installation, backfilling, and site restoration activities.
Planning & Coordination
- Review drawings, specifications, and daily work plans with the Superintendent.
- Plan daily crew activities and material/equipment needs.
- Coordinate equipment usage, deliveries, and subcontractor activities.
- Identify potential delays, utility conflicts, or field issues and report them promptly.
Quality Control
- Inspect work in progress to ensure compliance with project specifications and municipal standards.
- Ensure proper installation methods and workmanship standards are maintained.
- Correct deficiencies immediately.
- Assist with testing, start-up, bypass pumping coordination, and commissioning activities.
Safety Oversight
- Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Enforce OSHA and company safety standards.
- Ensure crews use proper PPE, trench safety systems, and safe work practices.
- Identify and correct hazardous conditions promptly.
Reporting & Documentation
- Track crew productivity and labor hours.
- Maintain daily reports, field logs, and installation records.
- Document material usage and installed quantities.
- Report issues, delays, utility conflicts, and change conditions to the Superintendent.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in underground utility, lift station, or heavy civil construction.
- Previous foreman or crew leadership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of gravity sewer, force main, storm drainage, and lift station installation.
- Experience with trenching, shoring, excavation safety, and utility installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility plans, and specifications.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and underground utility construction best practices.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lift station rehabilitation and pump station construction.
- Equipment operation experience is a plus.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Confined space and trench safety training preferred.
- CDL license is a plus.
