Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced 5-Axis CNC Machinist to join our manufacturing team. This is a hands-on role for a self-motivated professional who takes ownership of the entire machining process. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable on the shop floor and at the workstation programming, bringing technical expertise, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to solving complex manufacturing challenges.
This position plays a critical role in both new product development and production, working closely with engineering to develop efficient machining strategies while maintaining the highest standards of quality and precision.
This position is approximately 50% CNC programming and 50% machine setup and operation. The successful candidate will be expected to work with minimal supervision, lead by example on the shop floor, and continuously identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and manufacturing processes.
What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience programming and machining complex 5-axis components requiring simultaneous operations.
- Strong proficiency with modern CAM software and CNC controls.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction while managing multiple priorities.
- Proven problem-solving skills and a process-driven mindset.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and precision inspection techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Engineering team during product development to improve manufacturability and support new product introduction.
- Review engineering drawings, CAD models, GD&T, and technical specifications to develop efficient machining strategies.
- Estimate material, tooling, fixturing, and labor requirements to support prototype and production schedules.
- Independently develop, optimize, and verify CNC programs using Mastercam.
- Program and optimize 5-axis machining centers utilizing Heidenhain TNC 640 (Kern Micro HD) and Okuma OSP controls.
- Select, procure, and implement cutting tools, workholding, machining parameters, and inspection methods to maximize quality, productivity, and machine utilization.
- Set up, prove out, and operate 5-axis CNC machining centers while maintaining tight tolerances and superior surface finishes.
- Troubleshoot machining, programming, and tooling issues to minimize downtime and ensure production schedules are met.
- Maintain compliance with all company quality standards, documentation requirements, and safety procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience with Heidenhain and/or Okuma OSP controller
- Advanced 5-Axis Simultaneous Programming Experience (Mastercam Preferred)
- Experience with custom Macros and Mid-Cycle Probing Routines
- Experience with Exotic Alloys and Complex Aerospace Parts
- Minimum 4 years Operating and Programming 5-Axis Machines
Preferred Qualifications:

- Candidates should be prepared to present a portfolio of representative work, including precision components, fixtures, tooling, or manufacturing projects that demonstrate their technical capabilities. During the interview process, applicants should be able to discuss their overall manufacturing approach, including design intent, programming strategy, workholding and fixturing, tooling selection, machine setup, production methodology, quality control, and process optimization.
- Candidates may be asked to complete practical assessments demonstrating proficiency in CAD/CAM, CNC programming, machine setup, and machining operations.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening is required.
