LZT is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to support the Lunar Gateway Program at NASA Johnson Space Center performing systems and software engineering and development and supporting Verification and Validation for the on-board Vehicle Systems Manager (VSM). This engineering position involves reviewing and understanding concept and software requirements, analyzing and developing software architecture and design, and developing executable software using NASA Core Flight Software (cFS) framework. The position involves collaborating with Flight Software Development teams, vehicle subsystem teams, domestic and international Gateway partners. This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop VSM Reference Implementation software using the Core Flight Software (cFS) framework.
Advance VSM Software technologies through design deep dives.
Develop and maintain Graphical User Interfaces for Human interaction with VSM.
Provide Flight Software test script coverage for assigned use cases.
Interface with software and simulation systems to understand behavior and design and execute verification events.
Use custom and commercial tools (Sharepoint, Confluence) to record verification artifacts.
Interface with NASA and spacecraft designer engineering teams to stay current with evolving developments .
Interface and build relationships with domestic and international Gateway partners.
Provide creative solutions for constrained schedules and resources in a fast-paced environment.
Develop detailed knowledge of overall Gateway and individual spacecraft module design through design evolution.
Required Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG facilities.
B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Software Development.
Strong experience and skills in C/C++ development.
Experience with distributed complex systems.
Experience with data driven design and systems.
Evidence of success in highly collaborative projects/environments.
Ability to succeed in fast-paced environments.
Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment.
Possess technical expertise combined with verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with some supervision.
Must be a responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
Must have well developed coordination and organization skills.
Desired Skills/Knowledge:
M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
Experience with Linux OS.
Experience with NASA Core Flight System Framework
Experience with Python
Experience with version control systems such as Git.
Experience interfacing with simulators and working with telemetry.
Experience with Agile software development environments and methodologies.
Experience in the full life cycle of human-rated space vehicle flight projects. (e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion).
Experience with custom and commercial tools (Sharepoint, Confluence, Jira)
