The Role in One Line
You are the doctor for our customers' buildings — the single, trusted point of contact who walks their boiler rooms, watches their systems, catches problems before they become emergencies, and owns the outcome: maximum comfort at minimum cost.
Why This Role Exists
Most service providers respond when something breaks. Dual Fuel designs, installs, services, and monitors the mechanical systems in hundreds of NYC buildings through our proprietaryAxxon platform — and we built this role because our customers deserve someone dedicated to watching their building before anything breaks.
Real building knowledge doesn't come from a dashboard alone. Some of the most valuable findings are only visible in person: corrosion on piping, piping configured wrong on day one, failed steam traps and air vents, electrical conditions waiting to become a problem, a control sequence that fights the building in practice. And the superintendent or operating engineer knows things no monitoring system will ever tell you — but only shares them with someone who shows up, listens, and follows through.
You are not a dispatcher, not a salesperson, and not a help desk. You are the continuity — the person who knows each building from the boiler room up and from the data down, and makes sure the right thing happens next.
What You'll Do
- Own a portfolio of buildings. Serve as the named, ongoing point of contact — the person the owner and property manager think of when they think of their building's health.
- Walk your buildings. Really know them. We expect you to be in your buildings regularly — not on a checklist cadence, but often enough that nothing in the boiler room surprises you. Walk the mechanical spaces with your eyes open for what data can't show.
- Make the super your best source. Build genuine working relationships with each building's superintendent and operating engineer, and treat their observations as first-class diagnostic input.
- Review and act on building telemetry. Use Axxon dashboards, trends, and benchmarks to spot what matters — then turn it into action.
- Diagnose with specialists behind you. You don't need to be the deepest technical mind in the room — you need the judgment to know when a finding matters and which of our in-house specialists to pull in.
- Close every loop. Every meaningful finding ends in a documented conclusion, a customer conversation, or a scoped recommendation — never in a crack.
- Run the ongoing customer conversation. Regular building-health reviews with owners and managers: here's what happened, here's what we caught, here's what it saved you, here's what's next.
- Protect the relationship. The customer's confidence that someone genuinely knows their building — not just monitors it — is your responsibility.
Compensation
Competitive base salary plus a performance bonus tied to the outcomes that matter for your portfolio: resident comfort, energy performance, and customer retention.
Who We're Looking For
We are hiring for presence over pedigree. Your background could be the trades, engineering, facilities, property management, or technical account management — what matters is:
- Bedside manner. Owners, managers, and supers trust you quickly and keep trusting you. You explain technical reality in plain language without dumbing it down or overselling.
- Field instincts. You're at home in a boiler room. You notice the corroded fitting, the piping that doesn't look right, the trap that's blowing through — and you'd rather find it yourself than read about it in a complaint.
- Ownership. When something is yours, it does not fall through the cracks. You close loops.
- Technical fluency, not mastery. You can read a boiler-room trend chart, recognize what you're looking at in a mechanical space, and know who to call for the deep read. (We will teach you Axxon.)
- Calm judgment. You can hold "important but not urgent" without letting it become urgent — and without crying wolf.
- Comfort with data. You'll live in dashboards, building benchmarks, and trend histories daily — and use them to decide where to point your feet next.
Experience, Education & Certifications
None of the credentials below are hard requirements — they are signals. Two candidates with very different paperwork can both be excellent here. That said, here's what we recognize and value:
Experience (the strongest signal)
- 5+ years in some combination of: building operations or superintendence, mechanical service (boiler/HVAC/plumbing), facilities or property management, commissioning, energy engineering, or technical account management
- Hands-on time with NYC multifamily heating plants — steam and hydronic distribution, burners, combustion, domestic hot water
- Exposure to building automation or energy management systems (any platform — we will teach you Axxon)
- A track record of owning customer or building relationships over time, not just closing tickets
- Valid driver's license — this role lives in the field across the NYC metro area
Education
- No degree required. Trade school, an apprenticeship, or years in a boiler room count fully.
- A degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, energy management, or facilities management is a plus — particularly for the analytical side of the role
Certifications (any of these strengthen a candidacy)
- NYC operating credentials: DOB high-pressure boiler operating engineer license, or FDNY Certificates of Fitness related to low-pressure boiler and oil burner operation .
- Energy & performance: Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Operator Certification (BOC Level I/II), ASHRAE credentials such as BEAP or OPMP, or BPI Multifamily Building Analyst
- Building operations: BOMI designations (SMT, SMA, or RPA track) Trade & safety: EPA 608 (Universal), OSHA 30
- Working knowledge of NYC energy law (Local Law 97, LL87 audits, benchmarking) is a strong plus even without a formal credential
