This position requires direct, compassionate and confidential support to adult survivors of rape, sexual assault or sexual harassment, and their loved ones. (This includes taking some 24-hour hotline and on-call duties)
The NWA Center for Sexual Assault is seeking a Faith-Based Advocate - this is a full time staff position whose duties include: direct advocacy and support services for all adult survivors of sexual assault who seek services at the Center: creating and delivering presentations regarding Center services and issues surrounding sexual assault; and leading community outreach/education efforts to the faith-based community regarding supporting survivors of sexual assault.This advocate will forward the outreach efforts of the Center's Grace for Survivors project.
Grace for Survivors provides Guidance, Resources, Awareness, Compassion, and Education for adult survivors of sexual assault and the faith communities that support them. Grace for Survivors connects faith leaders with sexual assault service providers to help meet the healing needs of survivors who seek comfort from faith communities.
An understanding of the scope and impact of "rape culture" and victim blaming is vital to being successful at this job. Good candidates will be able to discuss the systemic impact that rape culture and racism may have on survivors of sexual assault.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Commitment and belief in Victim Advocacy, Social Justice and the mission of the CENTER.
- A team-player who understands that best-practices client service and organizational administration are vital.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Health Science, Counseling, or related field or equivalent experience (Will consider exceptionalrelevant experience without degree).
- Speaks and writes well and has experience with public speaking.
- Experience working with the Faith community is a plus.
- Competency and experience with computer software related to word processing, data-bases, and desktop publishing (including, Microsoft PPT, Word, Excel, and basic Statistical packages).
VICTIM SERVICES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be available to provide 1—8 days a month of 24-hour crisis line and crisis clinic advocacy as assigned by Executive Director (ED) and Client Services Director (CSD).
- Provide in-person advocacy as needed during office hours.
- Provide crisis line and crisis clinic advocacy as needed during office hours.
- Provide follow-up care and support for victims.
- Provide one-on-one advocacy and escorts/accompaniment to medical and legal appointments.
- Assist with public presentations to professionals and community groups.
- Assist with training volunteer advocates and interns as needed.
- Disseminate referral information to victims, including information regarding the Arkansas Crime Victims Reparation Board.
- Collect and prepare monthly client statistics for Grant and Research Reporting.
- Research, compile, and distribute sexual assault information—staying current on new research and information.
- All other victim services duties set forth by the Client Services Director or Executive Director.
GRACE FOR SURVIVORS SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Executive Director and team to assure that the CENTER is providing culturally-sensitive services to the faith community.
- Actively solicit groups and venues to make community outreach presentations to faith-based groups to increase awareness of sexual assault services.
- Work with CSD and ED to achieve Grace for Survivors' goals and objectives in alignment with its values.
GENERAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be an active, best-practices role model and support to volunteer allies and interns.
- Be a self-starter and take initiative to grow and expand upon the organization’s mission-driven work as it fulfills its Strategic Plan.
- Provide all aspects of friendly, accommodating and professional service to all clients and partner agencies.
- Work with fellow staff to maintain a clean, well-organized work environment.
