We are hiring a Remittance Processing Clerk (Account Clerk II) for our Document Control & Deposit Operations Division located in Springfield, IL. This position performs clerical and bookkeeping duties related to reviewing, balancing, preparing, and processing tax documents, vouchers, checks, and other remittance items. Essential Functions
Under direct supervision, performs specialized clerical and bookkeeping duties related to the receipt, review, preparation, and processing of tax documents, remittances, vouchers, and related items.
Reviews tax documents and batches to identify errors, discrepancies, or missing information, making corrections where possible in accordance with established procedures.
Processes checks and other approved remittance items through an electronic deposit manager, Check21 desktop scanner, or other approved deposit/scanning system, balancing remittances with documents by batch.
Utilizes a personal computer in accordance with established Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) and Division procedures.
Maintains logs, reports, and production records of work received, processed, corrected, deposited, and pending.
As assigned, assists in other work areas within the Bureau on a limited basis to help with production backlogs so that priority deadlines are met or as the result of implementation of new legislation or programs.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
Requires one year of office experience, including bookkeeping work.
Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete specific proficiency tests and/or training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience working with bookkeeping principles and practices.
Two (2) years of experience performing clerical office support duties.
One (1) year of experience operating an electronic deposit manager, Check21 desktop scanner, remittance scanner, or similar payment processing equipment.
One (1) year of experience maintaining logs of work received, processed, and pending.
One (1) year of experience preparing deposits, scanning checks, and verifying that deposits are balanced.
One (1) year of experience using tax processing software, imaging systems, payment processing systems, spreadsheets, or other computer applications to process or track financial documents.
One (1) year of experience identifying and correcting errors in financial documents, remittance items, batch records, or related processing documents.
Conditions of Employment
Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
Requires physical ability to perform tasks which include pushing and pulling a cart to deliver tubs of work to other areas.
This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
Requires the ability to walk, bend, lift above should level to place on or remove items from shelves and stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
