Assistant Director Position

JOB TITLE: Assistant Director-Residential (Full Time, 40 Hours, Exempt Position)

GENERAL DUTIES: The Assistant Director-Residential is responsible for overseeing a portion of the Home & Community Connections program, including up to 20 individuals living in a variety of residential settings. This position involves program development, management, and ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals supported.

Duties include:

¨ Cultivating a program-wide commitment to and fulfillment of the program’s mission;

¨ Creating an environment/climate and conditions where all employees feel a sense of belonging and once which aligns with Consortium’s Social Justice practices;

¨ Mentor, train and grow employees they supervise;

¨ Strategic planning and implementing positive programmatic changes;

¨ Providing leadership and vision through supervision, staff development, training, and evaluation;

¨ Establishing strategies and practices to ensure that, to the greatest degree possible, the people receiving services are the primary decision makers in their lives;

¨ Designing individualized supports for individuals supported;

¨ Developing multiple strategies to assist the people receiving services to learn the skills and competencies necessary to lead fulfilling lives as well as maintain and increase relationships and connections; promoting human rights;

¨ Overseeing medical services: medical, dental, psychological, specialty services, health, nutrition, and exercise to ensure excellent medical and clinical care;

¨ Overseeing Individual Support Plan (ISP) process;

¨ Overseeing the Medication Administration Program (MAP) for assigned locations;

¨ Ensuring accurate and timely reporting and updating through the DDS HCSIS system;

¨ Overseeing, auditing, and ensuring staff use of the Therap electronic medical record keeping system;

¨ Completing comprehensive Administrative Site Reviews of homes to ensure DDS regulations are met at all times;

¨ Budget and fiscal responsibility of assigned programs including allocated hours, overtime management, and program specific costs;

¨ Ensuring appropriate staffing patterns and schedules to meet the needs of individuals while staying in line with budget. Informing the Division Director immediately of a change in needs of individuals supported;

¨ Ensuring complete, accurate, and up to date documentation of all individual and site specific records including financial records;

¨ Ensure homes are clean, safe, and well-maintained. Report any needed repairs or safety concerns to the Division Director immediately;

¨ Respond to emergencies appropriately following Consortium policies and DDS regulations;

¨ Interviewing and hiring qualified direct care staff;

¨ Other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

OTHER DUTIES:

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT: Staff recruitment, selection, hiring, supervision and evaluation; creation and realization of staff development plans; approve scheduling of staff at sites to meet needs of supported individuals and Department of Developmental Services (DDS) regulatory requirements;monitor staff utilization; oversee program budgets to ensure that all resources are used effectively and expenses do not exceed revenues. The Assistant Director-Residential has decision-making authority.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:Design a program consistent with the development of true homes for people supported, enhancing social integration; overseeing ISP implementation and programmatic strategies based on individual desires; strategic planning for improvements, develop linkages with other services ensuring that these services are delivered consistently with the individual’s needs and program philosophy; serve as program liaison with DDS Service Coordinators.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/PUBLIC RELATIONS: Development of specific strategies and methods to ensure the participation of persons served in all aspects of community life and that are culturally relevant to them; communicate effectively and consistently with family members, guardians, advocates, etc. Ensure connection with appropriate community resources for individuals supported.

ONCALL RESPONSIBILITY: The Assistant Director-Residential is on-call for the programs they oversee from Monday at 8:30am through Friday at 4:30pm. The Senior Residential Manager is the on-call supervisor on the weekends and holidays on a rotating basis (typically every three weeks). A Director provides on-call support to the Senior Residential Manager as back-up.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Program Managers, Program Supervisor, Support Specialists, and Relief staff

SUPERVISED BY: Residential Director

WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Division Director, Assistant Director team, Recruitment, Quality Advancement, Director of Operations, Human Resources Manager, Fiscal Department, Quality Advancement Coordinator and Training, Human Rights, and Administrative Coordinator. The Assistant Director is the primary contact with DDS Service Coordinators.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in human service field or education required. Professional experience may be substituted for educational requirement.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of four years experience with individuals with disabilites or other human service field, minimum two years supervisory experience, intellectual disability experience desirable, residential services experience preferred. A variety of life experiences that can demonstrably enhance sensitivity to issues of persons with disabilities.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License, and reliable transportation. A basic competency in computer skills which includes navigating windows-based programs and the internet.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Senior Residential Managers are required to be MAP, CPR, and First Aid Certified.

LIFTING REQUIREMENTS: Ability to safely lift 25 pounds is required.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Assistant Director-Residential are required to complete Communication Enhancement Series, Basic Human Rights and Human Rights Systems; Agency Orientation, Formal Fire Safety, Sexuality & Relationships, Ethics of Touch, Bloodborne Pathogens, HIV/AIDS, Vitals, DPPC, Signs & Symptoms of Illness, and Trauma Sensitive Practice. Additional trainings are required based on individual or site specific needs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong leadership abilities; excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, ability to effectively manage budgets; self-knowledge and ability to assess the performance and capabilities of others; ability to set priorities and make decisions; commitment to continuously examine and improve supports; ability to think strategically; capacity for innovation, creativity, sound decision making, and excellent problem-solving skills. Understanding of life experience of people who live with developmental challenges; commitment to improve and ensure quality of life for individuals receiving services; capacity for innovation, imagination, and problem solving. A demonstrated commitment toward creating conditions to address systems of oppression and work toward undoing the harms they have caused.

HOURS: Full time, salaried position $60,000.00-63,000.00 annually, with great benefits and includes on-call responsibilities.
