Full Job Description

Job Title: Director-Youth Sports and Intramurals

Department: Athletics and Activities

Pay Grade: TABS, Step 1

FLSA Status: Part-Time Exempt

Reports to: Director VI – Athletics & Activities

GENERAL PURPOSE

Directs the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming related to activities and athletics of the SPS Youth Sports Program and its accompanying routines for the school district under the direction of the Athletic and Activities Office. Must consistently adhere to the standards of the Springfield Public Schools and contribute to the educational programs for all students in accordance with district policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

In conjunction with coaches, schedule all interscholastic athletic contests for youth sports and intramurals.
Hire officials for all home intramural athletic contests; verify officials on game day.
Schedule necessary personnel, including gatekeepers, scorekeepers, clock operators and chain crews, to work at home contests; verify workers on game day and authorize payment for services.
Coordinate/schedule all gym use for athletic contests and Intramural Programs.
Coordinate school-community use of facilities and assign personnel for activities requiring supervision.
Supervise and evaluate all coaches, sponsors, and other staff members as assigned.
Advertise athletic and intramural staff vacancies; receive applications; oversee the screening process; schedule interviews; make recommendations for filling vacancies.
Publicize and promote school activities.
Assume responsibility for preparing the activity budget as delegated by the District Athletic/Activities Director and building principals. Review and approve purchase orders for equipment and supplies for athletic activities.
Maintain current inventories for each sport.
Coordinate all summer camps/activities relating to the intramural program.
Fulfill any other duties that may be assigned dealing with the intramural programs.
Ensure Board policies, rules and regulations, as well as the directives of the Superintendent, and the guidelines of the program are observed.
Work as liaison between all athletic and student activity staff and administration.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, required.
Education based coaching experience with increasing levels of responsibility, required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

Missouri Teacher Certification, required.
Qualified, as defined by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education,required.
Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions and create action plans.
Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; conflict resolution; bookkeeping principles, and concepts of management and supervision.
Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
Ability to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; working with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods.
Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
