Summary:
Avante is seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to manage field operations across the company's construction projects. This position oversees and directs all onsite construction activity, ensuring that work performed by field personnel and subcontractors meets Avante's standards for quality, safety, and conformance to plans and specifications, while maintaining accurate on-site documentation including daily logs, sign-in sheets, and site checklists.
The Construction Superintendent also works closely with Avante's Project Management Team to ensure strong coordination across departments. A successful candidate brings hands-on field expertise along with the judgment and communication skills needed to build trust and accountability throughout the organization, and is equally comfortable directing work onsite and collaborating with the office to advance Avante's projects and meet client needs.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct construction activities performed by onsite personnel and subcontractors, ensuring work is completed in accordance with plans and specifications
- Perform quality control on workmanship, materials, and equipment; identify, troubleshoot, and resolve jobsite issues in real time
- Coordinate with project management and purchasing to ensure materials and equipment are delivered to site ahead of schedule; inspect and accept deliveries, verifying quantities and condition against orders
- Lead site inspections and field visits with building inspectors, third party inspectors, architects, engineers, clients, and lenders
- Strictly enforce site safety practices and code requirements, and maintain a clean and orderly site
- Conduct regular toolbox talks, coordination meetings, and safety meetings with subcontractors, and prepare related meeting documentation
- Stay closely aligned with the project management team's two week look ahead schedule, managing field operations accordingly to keep the project on schedule
- Anticipate potential delays and implement corrective measures and flag with leadership
- Maintain all required documentation on site, including DOB approved plans, structural stability letters, and daily sign in sheets, and return completed daily logbooks to the office
- Submit daily logs through Procore, including photo documentation of work performed and records of subcontractors on site
- On prevailing wage projects, monitor and document worker activities to ensure proper classification and wage reporting, and provide daily reports to Avante HR for prevailing wage payroll processing
- Review and maintain detailed knowledge of plans and specs, including all revisions and updates
- Coordinate with project managers to provide information required for RFIs
- Implement the daily supervisor checklist to confirm that all required documentation is on site and permits are up to date
- Notify the project management team immediately of upcoming permit renewals, additional forms or signage, or any missing documentation
- Perform additional tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- 62 hour NYC SST Supervisor certification required
- 5+ years of substantial construction industry experience
- Strong knowledge of construction industry practices and OSHA safety requirements
- Strong knowledge of gut renovations and rehab projects
- Skilled at reading and understanding construction drawings and scopes of work
- Strong multi-trade knowledge
- Physically able to work on a construction site, including climbing multiple flights of stairs multiple times a day to review work in progress
Competencies:
- Hands-on manager with excellent people skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple subcontractors simultaneously to ensure adherence to plans and specs, quality workmanship, and safety protocols
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise on the jobsite in real time
- Self-directed, with a high level of organization and attention to detail
- Professional and able to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations
- Bilingual English/Spanish speaking a plus
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Excel and Word, Sage Contractor, and Procore a plus
Work Environment:
The Site Superintendent will work in the field, assigned to ongoing projects throughout NYC and as far north as upstate New York.
