We are seeking experienced and motivated Surgical First Assistants (PRN) to support our growing network of ASC locations. This is an excellent opportunity for Surgical First Assistants looking for flexible scheduling, additional surgical case opportunities, and the ability to support multiple locations within a collaborative surgical environment.
Under the general supervision of a licensed provider, the Surgical First Assistant (PRN) provides surgical assistance within the Ambulatory Surgery Center and operating room environment. This role supports surgeons and the surgical team by assisting with procedures, ensuring patient safety, and contributing to efficient surgical operations.
The ideal candidate is technically skilled, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical setting. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and clinical teams.
These are PRN opportunities with scheduling based on surgical volume, operational needs, and candidate availability. Surgical First Assistants may support multiple ASC locations throughout Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
- Communicate surgeon preferences, procedural requirements, and specific patient needs to the surgical team.
- Position patients to provide optimal surgical exposure while following surgeon preference and safety protocols.
- Provide intraoperative assistance, including visualization, trocar insertion, local anesthetic injection, hemostasis, tissue handling, drain placement, and closure of body planes.
- Demonstrate proper knowledge and use of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Perform technical surgical skills, including but not limited to clamping, cauterizing, suturing, suctioning, retracting, cutting, injecting, manipulating, and ligating tissue as needed.
- Utilize appropriate wound closure techniques, including suturing and stapling, based on surgeon preference.
- Assist with post-procedure patient care, including application of surgical dressings and safe patient transfers.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and clinical teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Ability and willingness to support multiple ASC locations throughout Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
- Availability during scheduled surgical case hours based on assigned shifts.
- Comfortable working in a surgical environment, including exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent technical ability and spatial awareness.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Minimum of 1 year of Surgical First Assistant experience preferred.
- Associate degree in an allied health field or Bachelor's degree in a health-related science preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical First Assistant program preferred.
- Experience supporting orthopedic, spine, or related surgical procedures preferred.
