The Rhome Police Department is seeking the right police officer—not just any police officer—to serve as our next School Resource Officer (SRO). We believe the SRO assignment is one of the most important positions in our department, and we're looking for an officer who is committed to protecting our schools, building positive relationships, and making a lasting impact on the lives of our students.

Our SRO is a valued member of both the Police Department and the school community, serving as a law enforcement officer, mentor, educator, and trusted resource while remaining an active, fully commissioned Texas Peace Officer.
The ideal candidate is a proactive officer with sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, faculty, parents, and the community while confidently carrying out the law enforcement responsibilities of the position. This is a non-supervisory position that reports to the assigned Police Sergeant.

Job Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
Provide a visible law enforcement presence on assigned school campuses.
Build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
Serve as a mentor, educator, and trusted resource for students and school staff.
Respond to criminal incidents, emergencies, and calls for service.
Conduct investigations, prepare reports, collect evidence, and testify in court.
Work collaboratively with school administrators to promote a safe learning environment.
Participate in threat assessments, emergency planning, and school safety initiatives.
Present educational programs on topics such as internet safety, drug awareness, bullying prevention, and personal safety.
Assist with school events, traffic control, and extracurricular activities.
Maintain departmental equipment, complete required training, and uphold the professional standards of the Rhome Police Department.
Work Schedule
The School Resource Officer generally follows the school calendar and works during normal school hours while classes are in session.
When school is not in session—including summer break, holidays, teacher workdays, and other extended school closures—the SRO will be assigned to patrol operations or other departmental duties based on the needs of the department. These assignments provide opportunities to maintain patrol proficiency, assist with investigations, participate in specialized training, support community engagement efforts, and continue serving the citizens of Rhome.
The School Resource Officer remains a fully commissioned Texas Peace Officer and may be called upon to assist with emergencies, critical incidents, special events, and other law enforcement operations whenever needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic Peace Officer Certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
One (1) year of law enforcement experience is preferred. However, motivated officers with less experience who demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and a passion for community engagement are encouraged to apply.
TCOLE School Resource Officer Certification is preferred but may be obtained after selection.
Experience working with youth, schools, or community policing is preferred but not required.
Valid Texas driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
Ability to successfully complete a background investigation, physical examination, drug screening, and psychological evaluation (if applicable).
