Full Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer at T/C Arms is responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of firearm components, accessories, and manufacturing processes. This role bridges engineering and production; working hands-on with machining, assembly, quality, and supply chain teams to bring rugged, reliable products from concept to the field.

This position requires strong mechanical design capability, deep understanding of manufacturing methods, and a practical, problem-solving mindset rooted in real-world production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Component Engineering

Design and develop firearm components, sub-assemblies, and accessories using SolidWorks.
Generate detailed production drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) standards.
Perform tolerance stack-ups and design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
Support new product introductions from concept through production release.
Lead engineering changes and continuous product improvements.

Manufacturing & Process Support

Work directly with machining, finishing, assembly, and quality teams to support production.
Develop and improve manufacturing processes, fixtures, and tooling.
Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions.
Support cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or performance.

Testing & Validation

Develop and execute test plans for durability, function, and safety.
Analyze test data and document results to support design decisions.
Support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

Documentation & Configuration Control

Maintain accurate design documentation, bills of materials, and revision control using SolidWorks PDM.
Ensure engineering documentation supports compliance, quality standards, and production needs.
Participate in internal audits and design reviews.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate with Quality, Production, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Customer Service teams.
Support vendor communication and evaluate supplier capabilities.
Assist with technical support for customer or field-related issues as needed.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (required).
3–7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in firearms, aerospace, defense, automotive, or precision machining industries preferred.
Hands-on experience with CNC machining processes and metal components strongly preferred.

Skills & Qualifications

Proficient in SolidWorks (required).
Strong working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
Understanding of machining, heat treating, finishing, and assembly processes.
Ability to read, create, and revise detailed mechanical drawings.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Comfortable working on the production floor and collaborating with machinists and operators.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Knowledge of firearms design, materials, and safety principles is a plus.
