Certified Medical Coder (remote)- Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Lab & Path
Urology of St. Louis, a growing, private urology practice, is seeking a talented and motivated Certified Coder who is interested in making a difference in the lives of patients.
We currently have an opening in our Coding Team. Training will be onsite in Town & Country but after successful completion of training this will become a work from home position.
Overview: The coder is responsible for reviewing and analyzing documentation present in the medical record for inpatient, outpatient and/or professional services to assign diagnoses/procedure codes as described by the physician(s) of record. Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and American Academy of Professional Coders official coding guidelines.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Ensures timely CPT and ICD-10 coding of professional services performed by practice and enters charges daily.
- Produces quarterly reviews of E&M coding and documentation for Practice
- Develops and presents provider education as warranted by changes in the coding and documentation regulatory environment
- Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies.
- References CCI Edits, NCCI Manuals, CPT books and/or Encoder Software, such as Encoder PRO to ensure claim accuracy.
- Researches, analyzes, recommends, and facilitates plan of action to correct discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues to prevent future coding errors.
- Conducts meetings with providers to review coding and documentation issues, and educate physicians
- Maintains and assures compliance with federal, state, and local practices.
- Obtain and manage a relationship with billing outsource (RCMS), by providing guidance on how to process denied claims and other billing issues related to the work log established by practice solutions.
- Participates in annual education to maintain active certification
- Work the Coding & Reimbursement work queues assigned weekly.
- Keep staff updated with billing/coding compliance with health plan medical and reimbursement policies, as changes occur.
- Assist staff with any questions regarding billing, ICD-10 and procedure codes.
- Work the Missing Encounters Report weekly.
- Actively participate in Team meetings.
- Handles special projects as requested.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma
Experience: 3 years coding experience in ICD-10-CM diagnoses/procedure coding and HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in the acute care inpatient/outpatient hospital or professional services setting.
Certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
Other: Working knowledge and high level of experience with the ICD-10-CM and/or CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems, MS-DRG's, APC's, MPFS/RVU's, POA's, and HAC's; dependent upon whether an IP, OP, or Professional Services Coder.

Preferred Education: A.S. from an accredited Health Information Technology program or B.S. from an accredited Health Information Management program. Preferred Other: Working knowledge of Allscripts preferred.
