Full Job Description

Experience Requirements

Prior Leadership Experience: Typically 3–5+ years in a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment, with proven experience in supervising teams.
High-Volume Management: Experience overseeing large groups (often 50+ or, in this case, 300+ laborers) is highly preferred.
Direct-to-Labor Communication: Ability to communicate instructions to a diverse, potentially bilingual workforce.
Troubleshooting & Technical Knowledge: Understanding of machine operations and ability to troubleshoot production bottlenecks.
Safety & Compliance: Extensive experience with OSHA regulations, safety training, and enforcing PPE protocols.
Turnover Mitigation: Experience in training, motivating, and retaining entry-level workers.

Educational & Technical Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or GED is required.
Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Certifications: Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Yellow/Green Belt), or OSHA 10/30-hour training are highly valued and often preferred over advanced degrees.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) for tracking production and labor.

Key Skills for Managing Large Unskilled Labor Teams

Leadership & Coaching: Ability to train workers who have little to no prior experience.
Operational Discipline: Enforcing strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent quality.
Decision-Making Under Pressure: Quick resolution of logistical, material, or personnel issues to minimize downtime.
Conflict Resolution: Managing disputes and maintaining morale among a large, fast-paced workforce.
