Executive Director
Position Summary
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of Amare and works in partnership with the Board of Directors to advance the organization's mission, strategic vision, and long-term sustainability. The Executive Director provides visionary leadership while overseeing daily operations, financial stewardship, program development, grant management, community partnerships, and organizational growth.
As a Recovery Community Organization (RCO), Amare is committed to expanding access to peer-led recovery support services that empower individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. The Executive Director ensures the organization delivers high-quality, person-centered services while cultivating a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Partner with the Board of Directors to develop and execute Amare's strategic direction by:
- Designing and strengthening a resilient, sustainable, and scalable organization.
- Identifying emerging opportunities that align with best practices, community needs, and evidence-informed recovery support.
- Leading organizational growth while maintaining fidelity to Amare's mission and values.
- Developing strategic initiatives that expand services, partnerships, and organizational capacity.
- Establishing measurable goals and monitoring organizational performance to ensure continuous improvement.
Organizational Leadership & Operations
Provide executive oversight of all organizational operations by:
- Ensuring the successful delivery of peer-led recovery support services, including recovery coaching, family recovery support, workforce development, transportation assistance, recovery community centers, sober living initiatives, and treatment referrals.
- Supervising and supporting leadership staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional development.
- Building and maintaining effective organizational systems, policies, and procedures.
- Promoting operational excellence and high-quality participant experiences.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, county, and private funding requirements.
Financial Management & Resource Development
Lead the organization's financial sustainability through:
- Developing and implementing long-term financial strategies.
- Identifying and securing diversified revenue streams, including federal, state, local, and private grants.
- Cultivating relationships with foundations, donors, corporate partners, and community supporters.
- Supporting fundraising initiatives and special events.
- Working closely with the Board to ensure sound financial stewardship and responsible budgeting.
Grant & Compliance Oversight
Provide executive oversight of grant-funded initiatives by:
- Ensuring compliance with grant requirements, reporting obligations, and contractual deliverables.
- Monitoring program outcomes and organizational performance metrics.
- Supporting continuous quality improvement across all funded initiatives.
- Maintaining strong relationships with funders and regulatory agencies.
Community Engagement
Serve as the primary ambassador for Amare by:
- Building strong partnerships with healthcare providers, government agencies, recovery organizations, employers, educational institutions, and community leaders.
- Representing Amare through public speaking engagements, media opportunities, coalition meetings, conferences, and community events.
- Strengthening Amare's visibility and reputation throughout the region.
- Advocating for recovery support services and reducing stigma surrounding substance use disorders.
Board Relations & Governance
Partner with the Board of Directors by:
- Providing regular updates regarding organizational performance, finances, strategic initiatives, and emerging opportunities.
- Assisting with board development, planning, and governance.
- Supporting policy development and implementation.
- Ensuring organizational compliance with all applicable nonprofit laws and regulations.

We are a regional Recovery Community Organization (RCO). An RCO is a nonprofit organization led and governed by people in recovery, along with their families, friends, and allies. Amare’s focus is on peer led support services to help individuals achieve and sustain long-term recovery from substance use disorders. Amare provides services and support for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders in Madison and St. Clair counties.
