Job Overview

About the Firm

This is a well-established boutique law firm specializing in Chapter 11 corporate debtor representation and out-of-court workouts, with roots going back to the 1980s. The firm delivers big-firm caliber bankruptcy work with the hands-on experience and entrepreneurial spirit of a smaller practice.

Associates here handle substantive work — court appearances, case strategy, client interaction — that lawyers at top firms often don't touch until they're 7+ years in. Compensation is merit-driven, the culture is collaborative, and results matter more than face time.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Bankruptcy Associate with Chapter 11 debtor-side experience to join a tight-knit team of high-caliber practitioners. You'll run cases with real autonomy, appear in court, and work directly alongside partners who are invested in developing you into a business-minded, creative problem-solver.

This is not a document review role. From day one, you'll be doing the work that matters.

What You'll Be Doing

Representing corporate debtors in Chapter 11 proceedings and out-of-court workouts
Running cases end-to-end with significant autonomy and regular court appearances
Developing creative, commercially-minded solutions in complex restructurings
Handling bankruptcy litigation as needed
Working directly with senior partners committed to your growth and training

What We're Looking For

Required:

3–15 years of Chapter 11 corporate debtor-side bankruptcy experience
California bar admission (NY-only admission is not sufficient)
Strong business and financial acumen — comfort with numbers and corporate finance concepts
Stable employment history — frequent job changes are a significant red flag
Creative, solution-oriented mindset with strong EQ and situational awareness
JD from an accredited law school

Nice to Have:

Bankruptcy clerkship or prior boutique bankruptcy firm background
Prior business, finance, or CPA experience outside of law
Some litigation experience
Existing book of business (a plus, not a requirement)

Compensation & Benefits

$180,000 – $350,000+ (higher end for exceptional candidates with a book of business)
Merit-based compensation that can outpace Big Law for the right person
Hybrid schedule with flexibility for those who perform — in-office presence strongly encouraged, especially early on for learning and development

Pay: $180,000.00 - $300,000.00 per year
