Patient Access Specialist – Registration – Full-Time Days – Sheridan, MI

Location: 301 N. Main St., Sheridan, MI 48884 (serving Montcalm County and surrounding communities)

Schedule: Full-Time | Day Shift (rotating weekends and holidays as needed)

Sheridan Community Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join our front-line registration team.

In this role, you are more than registration—you are the first interaction patients have with our hospital, ensuring a positive, welcoming experience while supporting efficient access to care.

Ensure accurate and timely patient registration
Verify insurance to prevent billing delays
Support smooth patient flow across departments
Deliver compassionate service from the very first interaction

Patient Access Specialist Responsibilities

Greet patients in person and by phone with professionalism and compassion
Answer multi-line phones and direct calls appropriately
Register patients accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
Collect payments and explain financial responsibilities
Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations
Assist with registration for Emergency, Outpatient, Lab, Imaging, and other services
Distribute and process required forms and documentation
Provide directions and support to patients and visitors
Maintain accurate and complete patient records
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

What We’re Looking For

High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous customer service experience required
Healthcare or clinical experience preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Ability to learn and navigate EHR systems
Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Typing proficiency (minimum 50 WPM and high accuracy)
Detail-oriented, dependable, and adaptable
Ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment
