Job Duties
Responsible for set-up, operation and oversight of the Toolmaking department. Produces quality machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating EDM’s and grinders; maintaining quality & safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIALS JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the quality of parts produced in the Toolmaking department.
- Troubleshoot and optimize new production programs to ensure efficient overall production.
- Be proactively aware of workload and assist in the planning of tooling requirements for future jobs ensuring minimum downtime.
- Work seamlessly with all other areas of the shop and be a focal point for advice on Toolmaking operations.
- Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications and machining parameters.
- Basic understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
- Program EDM’s and CNC Trode Cutters by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math and geometry.
- Set up EDM’s, Trode Cutters and grinders as required.
- Verify set-up and first part before operator begins the project.
- Maintain specifications by observing burning and cutting, taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintain equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs when necessary.
- Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with co-workers, customers, clients, and management.
- Encourage maximum efficiency and productivity of workers, as well as efficient utilization of equipment and facilities.
- Support the company wide quality effort through the maintenance of a low reject rate and low scrap.
- Meet with the Project Managers and fellow Leads twice weekly or as needed to discuss tooling design, problems, and new tool schedule.
- Continue to learn and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
- Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to.
- Assist in the implementation and continued maintenance of Quality Control along with the most current standards for AS9100 and ISO 9001.
- Implement and maintain LEAN practices to reduce waste and cost.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Education Required
Associate degree (A. A.) from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to change and adapt work behaviors based on a constantly changing schedule.
Minimum Experience Required
At least five years of experience working unaided on setting up and operating CNC EMD’s, CNC Trode Cutters and experience in Final Assembly / Fitting in a job shop environment.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as portability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to operate a forklift to move, load and unload pallets and material.
Experience with Mastercam CAD software a plus.
Experience with SODICK, Ingersol wire & sinker EDM's a plus.
Pay: $28.00 - $36.00 per hour
