Gregory Construction is looking for a detail-oriented and dependable HR Generalist – Payroll & Benefits Compliance to join our People team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the details that keep payroll, benefits, and HR processes running accurately and on time. You'll work closely with our Payroll, Accounting, Benefits, and People teams while serving as a trusted resource for employees.

Support weekly payroll operations and serve as a payroll backup when needed.

Review payroll data, deductions, employee records, and pay changes for accuracy.

Assist with multi-state payroll tax compliance, including SUTA, FUTA, state withholding, and related reporting.

Support W-2 preparation and year-end payroll processes.

Manage and coordinate garnishments, child support orders, levies, and wage withholding notices.

Track payroll and compliance deadlines and maintain accurate supporting documentation.

Reconcile employee benefits deductions and carrier invoices and help resolve discrepancies.

Review employee benefit records and assist with benefits-related compliance.

Support 401(k) administration and compliance, including contribution reviews, reconciliations, audits, and documentation.

Assist with compensation changes, bonuses, payroll adjustments, and other approved pay-related transactions.

Help ensure compensation and payroll changes are properly approved, documented, and communicated.

Conduct and support audits involving employee files, payroll records, benefits, 401(k), and other HR compliance areas.

Assist with I-9 audits and reverification tracking.

Maintain compliance calendars, checklists, records, and other audit-ready documentation.

Help develop and maintain HR and payroll process documentation, checklists, and SOPs.

Respond professionally and confidentially to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, deductions, and related HR matters.

Partner with Payroll, Accounting, Benefits, HR, Operations, vendors, and company leadership to resolve issues and improve processes.

Previous experience in HR, payroll, benefits administration, accounting, compensation, or payroll compliance.

Experience with payroll taxes, SUTA, FUTA, W-2s, garnishments, or wage withholding strongly preferred.

Multi-state payroll experience is a plus.

Experience reconciling benefits, employee deductions, or insurance invoices preferred.

Experience with 401(k) administration, retirement plan compliance, or audit preparation is a plus.

Experience working with HRIS, payroll, benefits, timekeeping, or employee record systems.

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Comfortable working with numbers, deadlines, and confidential employee information.

Strong organizational, communication, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate or bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
The right person for this position is someone who likes digging into the details, catching discrepancies, and making sure things are done correctly and on time.
You'll need to be comfortable managing recurring deadlines, researching payroll or benefits issues, communicating with employees and vendors, and working across multiple departments to get answers.
