General Description
The Field Engineer II offers an exciting opportunity through innovation and problem solving in a diverse range of disciplines including electrical, mechanical, networking, troubleshooting, and installation. The position requires a strong aptitude and understanding of electronics, networking, technology system, schematics, and interconnectivity of electronic modules. The Field Engineer determines material requirements for in-vehicle and site system, develops bills of materials (BOM), troubleshoots the Avail systems throughout various levels of deployments, oversees site installations through the management of contractors and the vehicle installation process to ensure the process and quality are being adhered to, and acts as an advocate to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead onsite surveys to create final design documentation to be used to create final BOM’s outlining all the equipment, hardware, and cabling required to satisfy project deliverables and meet project requirements.
- Lead the creation of building Bills of Materials (BOM’s) with cables, hardware, assemblies, and software based on initial survey and design information.
- Determine the proper designs of in-vehicle ITS hardware, interconnection of devices, harnesses, and cabling to ensure proper layout, routing, and compatibility of in-vehicles systems with back-end systems.
- Work directly with cross-functional engineering teams to support back-end systems and networking.
- Provides leadership, direction, coordination, and oversite for all aspects of onsite installation and testing. Coordinate communication and project management between avail, agency, and installers during pilot and rollout installations. Prioritize issues and obtain resolution to allow smooth installation and vehicle ATP procedures
- Act as point of contact to troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical issues on installations of Avail's equipment and provides information and guidance to install team and customer.
- Work with mechanics/agency leads to provide maintenance training to provide guidance on how to troubleshoot and resolve issues with avail system. Provide support training to help access of customer portal and RMA process
- Provide clear and accurate documentation to be used by installation team, project team, and customer.
- Partner with customer to provide exceptional service while collecting information to influence product development and opportunities based on customer feedback.
- Perform periodic quality checks to ensure quality standards are achieved.
- Work with your peers and other departments to develop new and improve existing processes.
- Perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance to achieve issue resolution and a high level of system operability and uptime.
- Create SOW’s and subcontract agreements for vehicle and sign deployments under the direction of the PM.

- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, with the ability to systematically diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, computer, and networking issues.
- Proficiency in using multimeters, soldering irons, crimping tools, and other electronic and mechanical hand tools.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio, with the ability to quickly learn specialized software and technical systems.
- Creative and innovative problem-solving skills with the ability to identify practical solutions to technical and operational challenges.
Education Requirements
- Five or more years of relevant experience in field engineering, field service, electronics, or a similar technical role. An associate degree in a related technical field may substitute for up to two years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors and working directly with external customers is required.
