Details

Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work part-time in the Administration area as the Office Assistant. Under the director of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the office assistant will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties including serving as the first point of contact for students and community members entering the administration office, processing timesheets and supporting some key projects for the instruction office, answering phones, and providing general clerical and research support as needed. In addition, this position will assist the Vice President of Academic Affairs on special projects as assigned.

Ideal candidates will be positive, driven, be customer service oriented with an equity mentality, and a willingness to learn a variety of processes and systems.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, suitable applicants will be invited by phone or email on or around Wednesday, July 29, 2026 to participate in an interview. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of approximately 3-5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for August 13, 2026. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

COMPENSATION:
Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $30,113 to $33,243 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $38,583 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay.

Benefits: LTCC also matches 27% of an eligible employee’s salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.

Work-Life Balance: This is a part-time position working 28 hours per week. Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, five to six hours per day generally within the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, hours may vary according to the needs of the program. This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt). This position is not eligible for telecommuting due to the front-facing nature of the role.

LTCC provides a generous leave package including 17 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days sick leave per year for full-time position. Furthermore, LTCC has made a commitment to full closures during holiday breaks and several weekends adjoining holidays to provide employees the ability to take advantage of holiday and vacation usage.

Definition:
Under the direction of the supervisor, perform a variety of clerical functions in support of a department or unit; assist faculty, staff, students and the public answering questions and providing information regarding program or department.

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Office Assistant provides clerical functions including answering phones, assisting customers, and providing information. It is distinguished from the Administrative Assistant by the decision making authority and reporting relationship.

Representative Duties:
Receive and screen telephone calls and visitors; assist customer by answering questions or providing information; refer individuals to appropriate personnel as required; take and distribute messages; perform general clerical duties; type materials; compose flyers; perform data entry; order and maintain supplies; prepare purchase requisitions; monitor expenditures for department; collect appropriate fees and prepare accounting records.

Gather, compile and collate statistical information and other data; prepare reports; organize, establish and maintain record keeping systems for correspondence, documents, materials and records; record and log incoming information and follow up on missing or incomplete information; schedule appointments and meetings for supervisor; determine date and time and reschedule as necessary.

Accept and process forms, applications and general information requested by individuals; interact with faculty, staff, students and the public; interpret and provide technical guidance on regulations specific to assigned program(s); provide information on policies and procedures of department/work unit activities; handle personnel or administrative forms such as payroll timesheets for office department and forward for processing; may provide direction and oversees work of workstudy students; compose correspondence; copy, mail, fax and distribute materials; receive, open and distribute mail.

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work and two years of general clerical experience involving public contact.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Policies and procedures governing assigned work.

Learn interpret and apply the rules and technical regulations of assigned program(s).

Establish and maintain cooperative relations with students, faculty and the public.
Work with a diverse clientele.
Note: Bilingual Spanish skills may be required.
