Die Maintenance Technician - Casting Operations

Job Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

A leading manufacturing organization is seeking a skilled Die Maintenance Technician to support die casting operations through the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and optimization of casting dies and related tooling. This position plays a critical role in ensuring tooling reliability, maximizing equipment uptime, reducing downtime, and supporting the production of high-quality cast components.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with die cast tooling, mold maintenance, machining equipment, welding, and preventative maintenance programs in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance, inspection, repair, and troubleshooting of aluminum, zinc, or magnesium die casting dies and tooling.
Diagnose tooling issues and implement corrective actions to minimize production downtime.
Disassemble, clean, repair, and reassemble casting dies according to established maintenance standards.
Perform preventative maintenance on dies, trim dies, fixtures, and related tooling.
Operate manual machine tools including mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses to repair and rebuild die components.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T specifications, and tooling documentation.
Perform welding, polishing, spotting, fitting, and bench work required for die repair and modification.
Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
Assist with die changeovers, setups, and troubleshooting during production runs.
Identify opportunities to improve die performance, tool life, productivity, and product quality.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and tooling repair documentation.
Collaborate closely with Engineering, Tooling, Maintenance, and Production teams to support operational goals.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

QualificationsRequired

High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship preferred.
Experience in die maintenance, tool and die, machining, or die casting environments.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tooling prints, and specifications.
Experience operating manual machining equipment, including milling machines, grinders, and lathes.
Knowledge of precision measurement tools and inspection techniques.
Experience performing preventative maintenance and tooling repairs.
Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.

Preferred

Experience with aluminum, zinc, or magnesium die casting operations.
Tool and Die Journeyman certification or equivalent experience.
Experience with TIG, MIG, or laser welding for tool repair.
Knowledge of EDM equipment and die refurbishment processes.
Familiarity with CAD software and tooling design concepts.
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
