SUMMARY: Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Division Chair, the Nursing Faculty is responsible for all aspects of classroom instruction and advisement. The Nursing Faculty performs his/her duties in a timely manner with a spirit of cooperation with the Division Chair and fellow divisional faculty and in agreement with institutional policies and procedures. Night classes may be required as a part of the regular teaching load, if necessary, as determined by the Division Chair.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES INCLUDE:
- Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and clearly communicate the essential concepts in nursing related courses.
- Maintain clinical competency and keep abreast of current nursing practice standards.
- Provide an innovative, dynamic learning environment with varied teaching methods to facilitate student learning.
- Utilize appropriate assessment measures to gauge student comprehension of material and communicate progress regularly to students through assignment feedback and online grade posting.
- Participate in scholarly activities and professional development to enhance classroom instruction, completing required training every year to update lecture focus areas.
- Counsel and provide academic graduation advisement to nursing students.
- Support recruitment and retention efforts.
- Serve on institutional committees as assigned.
- Assist Division Chair in the development and review of curriculum, programs and degrees related to student learning, including program review, and develop new and revised programs to reflect changing needs and priorities within the Nursing Division.
- Provide required student learning outcome assessment data to Division Chair in a timely manner.
- Perform duties in a manner that supports teamwork and professionalism among colleagues.
- Assist with continued accreditation of the Nursing division through ACEN.
- All other duties as assigned by Nursing Division Chair
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Instructors must have current unencumbered RN license to practice in Oklahoma.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A minimum educational level of a master’s degree is required with at least 18 hours in the discipline and above the level of courses being taught. Previous faculty experience preferred. Candidates with BSN will be considered with commitment to complete MSN. Priority consideration will be given to candidates with clinical expertise in obstetric, pediatric, psychiatric, and complex care of adults.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, SENSORY & COGNITIVE ABILITIES: Nursing Faculty must possess the following:
- Sufficient acuity (seeing ability), such as the ability to accurately prepare and administer medications, observations necessary for client assessment and nursing care, such as observing color and appearance of skin and wounds.
- Sufficient auditory (hearing) perception to receive verbal communication from students, co-workers, and clinical institutional members. Also, to assess health needs of people through the use of monitoring devices such as stethoscopes, IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, fire alarms, telephones, etc.
- Sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly and to implement the skills required in meeting client health care needs safely and holistically while in a clinical setting with students. These include, but are not limited to, manipulation of equipment, management of multiple tubes and drains, and performance of CPR and palpation of body structures and organs. The ability to sit, walk, and stand for periods of time is required. Lifting of occasionally 50 pounds, frequent lifting of 25 pounds, and constantly lifting of 10 pounds is required.
- Sufficient communication and language skills (speech, comprehension, reading, writing) to interact with students, coworkers and clinical institutions. The ability to communicate effectively in English, as may be necessary for clients' interest and safety. Must be able to obtain information, describe client situations and perceive nonverbal communication.
- Sufficient intellectual functions and emotional stability to plan and implement safe care for clients and to promote effective communication with students/coworkers/clients/families/health care team while in the clinical or office setting. Needs to have the flexibility to function effectively under stress and deal with others who may be experiencing stress.
- Sufficient olfactory (smelling) abilities to detect presence of odor or smoke.
