Full Job Description

CNC MACHINIST - GRINDER

As a Centerless Grinder Setup - Operator, you have the important responsibility of operating and maintaining our grinding equipment to facilitate the production of high-quality parts. After reviewing blueprints, shop travelers, and operation sheets, you set up equipment to operate at optimum efficiency. You reliably conduct routine maintenance such as checking fluid levels and dressing regulating wheels. As you operate the grinders, you are attentive to how well they're performing. A mechanically minded problem solver, you quickly fix minor malfunctions.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated CNC Machinist specializing in Centerless Grinding to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will operate and set up centerless grinders to produce precision metal components with exceptional accuracy and quality. Your expertise in CNC machine setup, and measurement will ensure that production runs smoothly, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining equipment and contribute to innovative manufacturing processes in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

Set up, operate, and maintain centerless grinders to produce high-precision metal parts according to technical specifications and blueprints
Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining requirements and tooling setups
Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and Fanuc controls to optimize grinding operations
Perform machine calibration, alignment, and adjustments to ensure consistent quality and precision
Conduct quality inspections using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM)
Troubleshoot machining issues promptly, adjusting parameters or tooling as needed for optimal performance
Maintain detailed documentation of machine setups, inspection results, and process adjustments in compliance with quality standards

Skills

Proficiency in CNC G-code programming and CNC programming software for centerless grinding operations
Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and mechanical blueprint interpretation
Experience with electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a plus for complex component fabrication
Knowledge of machining tools, hand tools, power tools, tooling selection, and machine setup procedures
Mechanical knowledge related to metal machining processes such as milling, lathe work, manual machining, and grinding techniques
Ability to use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) for quality control
Familiarity with CNC control systems such as Fanuc or similar interfaces used in CNC milling machines and grinders
Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, tolerances, feed rates, and speeds necessary for precision machining
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow and reduce waste
Experience with plastics injection molding or welding is advantageous but not required

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A MFG TECHNICIAN - CENTERLESS GRINDER SETUP - OPERATOR

High school diploma OR trade school experience OR equivalent
2+ years of grinding experience OR 3+ years of experience working in manufacturing, production, or in a technical position
Ability to set up and operate centerless grinding machines OR the ability to quickly learn to do so
Experience reading blueprints
Proficiency with inspection equipment such as a micrometer, profilometer, and roundness gauge
Proficiency in basic shop math
Ability to stand throughout a shift in a machine shop environment
