Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) – Emergency & ICU / Critical Care
Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital | Northeast Ohio

Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital (MVH) is a 24-hour Emergency & Specialty hospital serving Northeast Ohio from our Highland Heights and Copley/Akron locations. We’re hiring full-time/part-time Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) or Students to join our Emergency and ICU / Critical Care teams.

Pay:

RVTs-$23.00–$30.00/hour based on experience + shift & weekend differentials

Students- starting at 17.00/hr based on experience + shift & weekend differentials

Job Summary

As an RVT or Student at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to emergency and critically ill patients. This role requires strong technical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, and a passion for patient advocacy. We value technician autonomy and believe RVTs and Students should be utilized, respected, and continuously challenged.

What Sets Our Emergency & Critical Care Team Apart

Hands-on experience with mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support
Placement and management of atrial catheters
High-flow oxygen and advanced oxygen delivery techniques
Exposure to complex critical care cases beyond standard ER medicine
Direct mentorship from VTS-ECC–certified and experienced emergency technicians

Day-to-Day ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Monitoring

Triage and perform emergent patient assessments with confidence
Monitor and care for hospitalized and critically ill patients
Advocate for patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment

Technical & Anesthesia Skills

Assist veterinarians with emergency and critical care cases
Perform and monitor anesthesia, from minor procedures to critical patients
Calculate and manage CRIs, drug dosing, and fluid therapy
Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory diagnostics, and anesthesia monitoring
Utilize in-house diagnostics and advanced medical equipment

Team & Communication

Actively participate in rounds, case discussions, and treatment planning
Document thoroughly and communicate clearly with doctors and teammates

What We’re Looking For

Current Ohio RVT license (required)
Current enrollement in RVT School for students required.
2+ years of veterinary experience (emergency experience preferred but not required)
Strong interest in emergency and/or critical care medicine
Excellent communication skills — clear, efficient, and professional
Strong math skills (drug calculations, CRIs, fluids)
Flexibility with scheduling
Patient-focused, team-oriented, and motivated mindset
Excellent time management and ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital

Emergency (3rd Shift): Multiple Openings
Emergency (2nd Shift): Multiple Openings
Emergency (1st Shift) : Part-time and Full time- Weds - Saturday 7a-5p
Critical Care (Part-Time): Thu–Sat, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
Critical Care (3rd Shift): Sun-Weds 930p-730a
