Full Job Description

Summary:

Project Engineering bridges the boundaries between engineering and project management, leading the technical workers who contribute to the building of our structures and job sites. The Highway Construction Project Engineer is responsible for assisting engineering and construction project managers with the technical disciplines involved in a project. The Project Engineer completes engineering projects by organizing and controlling project elements. S/he will be responsible for implementation of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) which includes purchasing and inventory control. Provide support and direction to operational support staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Coordination:
Prepare schedules, pre-plan tasks, and forecast resources for engineering and technical activities.
Develop project objectives by reviewing proposals and plans, in collaboration with management.
Identify project phases and elements, and review contractor bids to determine responsibilities.
Technical & Cost Management:
Study product design, customer requirements, and company standards to determine project specifications.
Prepare cost estimates and schedule timelines, ensuring all project elements are sequenced efficiently.
Coordinate technical developments, resolve engineering issues, and integrate technical activities.
Project Monitoring & Reporting:
Maintain project schedules and manage costs by reviewing design changes, specifications, and timelines.
Prepare project status reports by analyzing data and trends, making recommendations for action.
Maintain the project database and contribute to team success through related tasks as needed.
Additional Duties:
Manage project and other duties assigned, ensuring completion with high attention to detail.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in civil and/or mechanical engineering or related field.
Strong analytical skills: very detail oriented and organized.
Strong technical background with exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and solve problems under pressure.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, but no required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel, walk, talk, see, hear, push, pull, climb, bend, and stoop. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb, use manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work and typical office equipment, hear sufficient to hear conversations in person and via telephone and radio, and vision sufficient for distance sight and to read diagrams, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws, and plans. The employee is occasionally required to reach, push, and pull with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Physical dexterity may involve stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions. The employee must be able to maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities occurring at the site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
