Staff Pharmacist

Location: Richmond, Texas
Employment Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Work Setting: In person

Sapphire Pharmacy is an independent, patient-focused community pharmacy located within a multi-specialty medical building in Richmond, Texas. We are committed to providing personalized service, safe and effective medication therapy, and an exceptional patient experience.

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Staff Pharmacist who is committed to patient care and interested in helping a growing pharmacy continue to build strong relationships with patients, healthcare providers, and the surrounding community.

Position Summary

The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely dispensing of medications while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and Texas pharmacy laws and regulations. This position also provides patient counseling, administers immunizations, supports non-sterile compounding services, communicates with healthcare providers, and supervises pharmacy technicians and interns.

The ideal candidate is professional, organized, approachable, and comfortable working in a community pharmacy environment where personalized care and attention to detail are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

Review and interpret prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, clinical appropriateness, allergies, interactions, contraindications, and proper dosing.
Accurately verify and dispense prescription medications in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and professional standards.
Counsel patients regarding medication use, dosage, administration, potential side effects, interactions, storage, adherence, and other relevant precautions.
Identify and resolve medication-related concerns in collaboration with prescribers and other healthcare professionals.
Communicate with healthcare providers regarding prescription clarifications, refill requests, therapeutic alternatives, prior authorizations, and patient-care concerns.
Administer immunizations in accordance with current protocols and applicable state requirements.
Prepare and verify non-sterile, non-hazardous compounded medications when applicable.
Maintain complete and accurate records of prescriptions, patient consultations, immunizations, controlled substances, and pharmacy activities.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, controlled-substance requirements, inventory controls, and all applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations.
Supervise, support, and provide direction to pharmacy technicians, interns, and other pharmacy personnel.
Promote a respectful, collaborative, and patient-centered work environment.
Review and respond appropriately to pharmacy communications, including email, voicemail, electronic messages, and other assigned communication channels during each shift.
Assist with inventory management, medication ordering, recalls, expiration-date monitoring, and proper medication storage.
Help maintain efficient pharmacy workflow and provide timely, professional customer service.
Support pharmacy outreach initiatives and the development of relationships with local healthcare providers and community partners.
Report medication errors, near misses, patient concerns, and operational issues in accordance with pharmacy policies.
Perform other pharmacist duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution.
Current, active, and unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Texas.
Current pharmacist immunization certification.
Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification, as required for immunization administration.
Strong knowledge of community pharmacy practice, pharmacology, drug interactions, medication safety, and applicable pharmacy regulations.
Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with pharmacy staff and healthcare providers.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a retail, outpatient, or community pharmacy setting.
Experience with PioneerRx pharmacy software.
Experience with non-sterile compounding.
Experience administering immunizations.
Previous pharmacy leadership or management experience.
Bilingual communication skills.
