Test Prep Pundits is a leading SAT and ACT preparation organization committed to helping students achieve strong academic results and reach their college-admission goals.
We are expanding our college counseling and essay-writing services and are seeking passionate, knowledgeable, and student-focused tutors. The selected candidates will guide high school students through the college-selection, application, and essay-writing process.
Who Should Apply
We welcome applicants from the following backgrounds:
1. College Student Tutors
Current college students with strong writing, communication, and mentoring skills who are interested in helping high school students with college applications and essay writing.
2. Experienced Tutors
Tutors with one to three years of experience in English, writing, SAT/ACT preparation, academic counseling, college admissions, or essay coaching.
3. Experienced Teachers or Counselors
Current or former English teachers, school counselors, college counselors, writing instructors, or admissions professionals with experience supporting high school students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalized college admissions counseling.
- Help students research colleges and create balanced college lists.
- Guide students in selecting reach, target, and safety schools.
- Help students understand college admission requirements and application deadlines.
- Guide students through the Common Application and other college application platforms.
- Help students brainstorm, outline, draft, and revise personal statements.
- Edit and strengthen Common App essays and supplemental essays.
- Help students communicate their experiences, achievements, and goals effectively.
- Preserve each student’s authentic voice while improving clarity, structure, grammar, and impact.
- Review student résumés, extracurricular activities, honors, and accomplishments.
- Provide guidance on recommendation letters, interviews, scholarships, and application strategies.
- Track student progress and ensure assignments are completed on time.
- Communicate professionally with students, parents, and the Test Prep Pundits team.
- Conduct both online and in-person sessions.

- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills.
- Ability to mentor and motivate high school students.
- Ability to provide clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.

- Comfortable conducting both online and in-person sessions.
- Passion for helping students succeed academically and personally.
Qualifications by Candidate CategoryCollege Student Tutors
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Strong academic record preferred.
- Excellent English writing and communication skills.
- Experience tutoring, mentoring, editing, or working with younger students is preferred.
- Familiarity with the college application process is helpful.
Experienced Tutors
- One to three years of tutoring, counseling, writing, or academic coaching experience.
- Experience helping students with English, essays, SAT/ACT preparation, or college applications.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Familiarity with the Common App and U.S. college admissions process is preferred.
Experienced Teachers or Counselors
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Counseling, Communications, or a related field.
- Experience as an English teacher, school counselor, college counselor, writing instructor, or admissions professional.
- Strong understanding of the U.S. college admissions process.
- Experience helping students write college essays and complete applications is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience helping students write successful college admissions essays.
- Familiarity with the Common App and supplemental essay requirements.
- Knowledge of college application timelines, financial aid, and scholarships.
- Experience working with academically advanced students.
- Familiarity with highly selective colleges, BS/MD programs, honors programs, and scholarship applications.
- Experience working with first-generation college applicants.
- Knowledge of SAT and ACT preparation is an advantage.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is patient, encouraging, dependable, detail-oriented, and passionate about helping students succeed.
Candidates should be able to build positive relationships with students, identify the unique qualities in each student’s story, and help students develop polished, authentic, and compelling college applications.
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid position. Tutors may provide:
- Online counseling and essay-writing sessions.
- In-person sessions at Test Prep Pundits locations.
- A combination of online and in-person support based on student needs.
Schedule
- Flexible part-time schedule.
- Evening and weekend availability may be required.
- Additional hours may be available during the peak college application season.
- Tutors must be dependable and available for scheduled student sessions.
Compensation
Competitive hourly or contract-based compensation based on education, qualifications, experience, and assigned responsibilities.
