Washington Machine Works — Seattle, WA · Full-time, on-site · Shift: 1st Pay: $40–$55/hour DOE · Overtime at 1.5x · Medical/dental/vision · 401(k) with 3% match · 10-19 days PTO · Paid holidays

About the work

We're a 9-person job shop running six CNC machines alongside our manual equipment. Most of what comes through the door is one-off and short-run: prototypes, replacement parts nobody makes anymore, and low-volume production for customers in aerospace, marine, food processing, heavy equipment, pulp and paper.

That means no two weeks look the same. You get a print, you figure out how to make it, and you make it. If you like the puzzle of fixturing an awkward part and holding tolerance on the first one, this is a good shop for you. If you want to load the same part 500 times a day, it isn't.

What you'll actually do

Read prints and models, and help plan the job start to finish — operations, sequence, work holding, tooling, speeds and feeds
Write and prove out programs in Mastercam, plus conversational and manual G-code edits at the control
Set up and run 3-axis and 4-axis machines with Haas and Centroid controls
Build and modify fixtures and soft jaws as the job requires
Inspect your own (and others') work — mics, indicators, gauge pins, height gage — and document first articles
Troubleshoot in real time: chatter, tool life, finish problems, a part that isn't coming out like the model said it would
Work directly with the shop lead and, when it helps, with customers on manufacturability

What we're looking for

Required:

5+ years as a CNC machinist doing your own programming and setups, not just running someone else's
Fluent with G-code — able to read it, edit it at the control, and know what the machine is going to do before you hit cycle start
Comfortable holding ±0.0005" and reading GD&T
Solid on work holding and fixturing for parts that don't sit flat and square
Strong shop math and inspection habits
Can take a print and a chunk of material and get to a finished part without being walked through it

Nice to have:

5-axis or multi-axis experience
Manual mill and lathe skills for the jobs that don't justify a program
Experience with all machinable materials.
AS9100 / ISO 9001 or other regulated-industry documentation experience
Welding, fabrication, or assembly background

Not a fit if: you're looking for a first machinist job, or your experience is limited to loading and unloading parts on programs someone else wrote. We're happy to talk to junior people when we're hiring for those roles, but this isn't one.
