ABOUT OUR Y:

Our Y is one of Southern California’s leading charitable organizations dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

MISSION:

The mission of the YMCA of the Foothills is to organize, develop, finance, and conduct programs for an association of persons of all ages that will, by putting Christian principles into practice, enrich the quality of their lives spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Healthy Living Director, the small group trainer, strength and conditioning instructor and personal trainer will have the primary responsibility for building relationships with the members and for instructing the to exercise, according to accepted YMCA fitness standards and guidelines, to help members reach their health and fitness goals. Personal trainers will costumize individual programs to accommodate members needs, injuries and desired outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to explain and demonstrate safe exercise principles to our members
Ability to develop and implement exercise programs
Ability to proactively communicate with members about the programs and packages available
Ensure safety regulations are always followed
Carry all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner
The personal trainer is responsible for providing members with a clean, hazard-free and pleasant environment at the YMCA of the Foothills.
The personal trainer is expected to provide leadership that keeps the YMCA in the forefront of the healthy lifestyle and service industry.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures including but not limited to medical and disciplinary situations, emergencies, dress guidelines and cleanliness standards.
Maintains positive relations and rapport with members, staff and volunteers at all time.
Supports other staff and volunteers through good communication skills.
Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Position requires a friendly, enthusiastic and conscientious leader with excellent knowledge and skill in the areas of health and fitness and has effective communication skills.
Minimum 1 year experience instructing small group programs and working with members one on one.
Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid
Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Ability to attract, retain, lead, and motivate members and staff
Have a 2 to 4 year college degree in physical fitness or related field, or personal training certification from a nationally recognized certifying board such as ACE or AFAA
Ability to positively motivate members/children/participants in fitness activities.
Excellent verbal communication skills
Strong customer and results orientation.
Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
Ability to be an effective member of project teams.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
Ability to stand for long period of time
Ability to walk/run for long periods of time
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from the floor to waist high ten to fifteen times a day
Must be able to clean and maintain equipment and facility. Must be able to proactively take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all members
